Songs and hymns are sung in the service. They are often about how death is the portal to a better life in heaven.

Sprinkling of the casket is related to the waters we are baptized in. The same water is sprinkled over the body to remember of the hope that the person is in Heaven.

Bibles or crosses may be placed on the coffin to symbolize the impact Jesus has had on the life of the deceased. And that he has claimed victory over the life, and that they will go to Heaven.

A candle is lit to show the light of Jesus Christ and the belief that he has conquered the darkness of sin and death. It is also a reminder that the departed loved one shares in the victory of Jesus over the powers of darkness.

Family and friends are encouraged to bring bread and wine to the altar of the funeral. This symbolises the action of saying "Lord we give our loved one back to you. We accept your will and trust in you." Other symbolic gifts like rosary, cross, a special picture or the loved one's favourite possession may also placed on a small table before or near the altar.

Catholic church has historically not supported this idea but these days it is acceptable for a Catholic to be cremated. Most churches prefer the body to be presented for the Funeral Mass so the cremation occurs after the mass. The remains should be buried under ground or at sea or entombed in a columbarium. The family can also keep the remains in an urn. Remains shouldn't be scattered.
