If you are a lover of ancient religious history then you need to read this. Now a biblical canon or canon of scripture is a set of texts that a particular religious community regards as authoritative scripture. When it comes to the Christian religion, there are a number of books, to be precise 66, which Christians read and follow all the rules that are stated in them. Now Christians claim that the Bible was written by men appointed by God himself. Historians and archeologists on the other hand have found ancient scrolls on the Holy Land which contains messages that were written by people who seem to also be appointed by God himself. This begs the question who decided what books/canons that should go into the Bible and what books should be left out? Should the Bible consist of more than the 66 books available?

Now Christianity is divided into different denominations. We have the Protestants who are the free spirited, free living Christians, we have the Catholics who are led by the Pope, we have the Seventh Day Adventists who differ with the rest of the Christians on the day of the Sabbath, we also have the Orthodox Church and the Hebrew church. All this churches have the common Bible books that are accepted widely but some like the Catholic have additional books like Tobit and Judith while others like the Hebrew do not believe in the New Testament and therefore do not have the New Testament books.

Bible Canon is an organization that is trying to address the concerns to do with Bible formation and Bible Canonization process. Bible formation happened many centuries ago. There are new and Old Testament books. Old Testament books were written before the coming of Christ while New Testament books were written after His departure. The Bible canons were primarily written in the Hebrew language for the Old Testament and Greek for the New Testament. Translation has been happening over the years and it is still on going for the sake of spreading the Gospel. Bible Canon has clearly listed all the accepted books by specific denominations and all the books that are being disputed. It also states the Deuterocanonical debate where the ancient scholars would argue about the validity of the canons.

The Bible canonization process was gradual and was composed of the writings which spread over many centuries. At the time of the formation of the New Testament, only 20 books were accepted as the true word of God. These were the 4 gospels, the Acts of the Apostles, and some of the letters. It was only the letters that weren’t named after their authors that were disputed against. Nevertheless, Christians finally agreed upon the books that should be part of the Bible. And above all, they agree on the worship of one God only.

Bible Canon has a very informative website where all this information can be found. Anyone can access the website and be filled with knowledge.
