Description- The character map would be a good tool for 2nd grade. This allows students to define each character from the book, students can easily tell how the plot impacts the character and how the character impacts the plot.

Advantages-
-Easily define main characters.
-Helps break the story down and organize the plot and key points from the book.
-Students can work in groups to help fill in the text boxes.
-Can be used for both fiction and non-fiction.

Disadvantages-
-This activity includes a lot of writing so it would not be a good independent project for kindergarten or 1st grade.
-Students might struggle to define the main characters from less important characters.

The character map is on page 7 and the first choice under the character map heading.

Description- A think-pair-share chart allows students to independently think about the topic, then the students can pair with a partner and discuss their answers and finally the class can share with everyone.

Advantages-
-Allows students to work with other classmates, creating a better classroom environment.
-This activity gets students up and moving which helps them to stay focused more.
-Gives students who may not understand quite so well a chance to talk with a partner to better understand the topic.

Disadvantages-
-If there is not good classroom management then this a can be loud.
-Not all students questions will be on the same level, which may cause some students to disengage.
-Some students may not further their learning with this activity. For example they may not use it as a study resource.

The think pair share chart is on page 23 and is the first choice under the think pair share heading.
