Ratliff also states that closeness is an element that is hard to identify because it is not physical. The only way to identify it is by hearing it and by the effect it leaves on you. Ratliff says that closeness "gives the listener a secure, jacketed feeling". This feeling should be evident when closeness is executed properly.
