This is a confidential service for people who would like information, help or who wish to comment about any aspect of the services provided at the hospital. The PALS officer provides the opportunity for you to raise in confidence any issues and comments that you have about the care and service you receive from staff. PALS help the hospital to improve its services for patients.

PALS offers support, information and help to patients, their families and visitors. They can help you to sort out your issues by speaking on your behalf to anyone involved in your care, or the care of your relative or friend. PALS will not speak to anyone about your concerns unless they have your permission to do so. The service offered by PALS is informal, impartial and confidential.

You can be referred via GP, midwife or A&E. Patients will then be contacted via telephone by the EPU in order to schedule an appointment. Those with a history of 3 or more miscarriages or previous ectopic pregnancies can self-refer by telephone.

Losing a baby through miscarriage is a deeply personal and painful experience. Finding ways to remember and honour your baby can help bring comfort, create meaning, and support healing. Here are some thoughtful ways to do so:

-Name Your Baby (if you feel ready)

Even if you never knew their gender, giving your baby a name (or symbolic nickname) can help validate their presence and your bond with them.

-Plant a Tree or Garden

Planting something in memory of your baby is a living tribute- a space for reflection, healing, and growth.

-Create a Memory Box or Keepsake

Include ultrasound photos, notes, a letter to your baby, or symbolic items like a candle or a small toy. This can offer a tangible way to honour their existence.

-Write a Letter or Journal

Writing your thoughts, grief, love, and hopes for the baby can be therapeutic. It gives a safe place to express emotions that are hard to speak aloud.

-Light a Candle on a Special Date

Honour important dates like the due date or the day of your loss with a simple ritual. This creates time to reflect and acknowledge your emotions.

-Create or Wear Symbolic Jewellery

A bracelet, pendant, or ring can serve as a subtle, personal tribute. It might include a birthstone or an engraved date or name.

-Participate in a Remembrance Ceremony or Walk

Events like the "Wave of Light" on October 15 (Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Day) connect you to a community of others who understand.

-Donate or Volunteer in Their Name

Helping others or supporting organisations that deal with pregnancy loss can give your grief purpose and your baby’s memory a lasting impact.

There's no right or wrong way to grieve, and there's no timeline. Whatever you choose to do - or not do - is valid.
