These new revelations created an unrest amongst the French people who recognized that their monarchy was not the attentive and well-natured government it should be. This led to the people recognizing that their suffering was caused by their very own leaders and that change was necessary. John Locke, in particular, would've had one of the largest impacts due to his belief of the social contract and a government that is meant to serve the people not the other way around.

Mary Wollstonecraft argued for women's rights, and many of the French women rioted in the streets because of the scarcity of bread. John Locke was an English philosophe who believed in natural rights and the creation of a social contract between a government and its citizens. When the government refused to follow the social contract, Locke believed that the regular people had the right to rebel and overthrow the government. In France, the monarchs hadn't been paying attention to the needs of their people, so the people started to rise up and riot against the French monarchs.

They would be given protection with cooperation as they were governed. Similarly Voltaire who emphasized the freedom of speech shaped how the French people would advocate for what they believed was right and fight back against the government, especially with the shortage of bread. This also ties into Locke's idea of natural rights and how the French fought strongly for their rights to the basic necessities, like food.

The French people hearing about this made them realize they no longer have to live the way they are.

Although many people live with immense wealth today, the case of the monarchs of France were vastly different than in the USA. In France, the King and Queen were responsible for helping their people and were direct links to the people's suffering by living lavishly and accounting for their debt by heavily taxing the people. The taxes were too substantial for the French people to pay, leading to starvation and suffering. In the USA, however, those who are wealthy are not always those in power. They have no "duty" to the people so they cannot necessarily be held accountable like the monarchs had been. The wealthy aspects of the government also aim to help the impoverished citizens through federal programs. These programs provide aid to the US citizens which usually prevents an uprising. Furthermore, the government in the United States is dictated by the people and the bodies of government are merely just representatives unlike the King and Queen in France who were individuals who maintained most of the power in France.

The president's and government officials' money is not the united states' money, the country has its own funds leading the debt not to be traced to a person after their presidency in the way that even if a past president puts the country in even more debt they are not responsible for paying it after their 4 years. Back in the age of the enlightenment, the money that France would have had came from the royal family for the most part.

It typically doesn't take one sole person to make a dramatic change that can be seen over time, but if one person initiates it and then others follow, it becomes a change over time. As people start to think on their own and form ideas, they begin to realize how things could be better which is when a change occurs.
