Discrimination or prejudice on the grounds of a person's age; a bias against the elderly based on their age and not on individual merit of the individual.

Factors of Ageism:
1) stereotypes that older workers are not savvy about technology, cost more or are not as productive are fueling age discrimination.

2) older people are discriminated against on the basis of age-related looks.

3) Older people are frequently assumed to be in poor physical or mental health and lack psychological agility.
Example: Older adults are frequently presumed to be poor drivers. In fact, studies have demonstrated that older drivers, up until the age of about 75, are actually safer drivers than young drivers.

Ways to tackle discrimination:
1) Stop complimenting people on looking young. 
Statements such as "you don't look your age" help create an environment that makes it difficult for older people to age naturally. When ageing is not visible, people who are older will find it difficult to gain acceptance in society.

2) Educate your children.
If you are a parent, ensure that your children have good elderly role models. Encourage them to spend more time with their grandparents. They can also volunteer with elderly programmes to increase the chances of interaction and learn that there is common ground across the ages.
