Escola Secundária D. Sancho I , which will be 65 years old on 16th March 2021, accommodates around 2,200 students and employs 250 teachers and 40 school aids.
Agrupamento de Escolas D. Sancho I employs a large group of qualified and experienced teachers in chemistry, physics, science, biology and health, dedicated to their fields. There is a high school health club  and it recently gained the seal of Eco-School. 
The school separates its waste and
everywhere there are yellow and blue bins, where the community can put their daily waste to be recycled. The establishment organizes frequent guided tours of local waste management plants designed to educate students on
the importance of recycling and buying items with as little packaging as possible. The city park is called Parque da Devesa, which was opened in 2012 and has 27 hectares. It has some footpaths and is the perfect place for a family walk, to practice sports, to ride your bike or to watch the nature. It has a huge amphitheater where many cultural activities like movies, circus, and dances happen. It is crossed by the river Pelhe.

It has some natural vegetable gardens that are kept by families, individual citizens, schools and associations, but are also used for therapeutic purposes. They promote sustainable agriculture aiming to increase the environment quality in our city, to increase food security, to boost domestic economy and promote food supply autonomy.
