It is more famous for its restaurant. there was this small place which was where we learnt the things at. we learnt that orchids have many uses
some flavour food and some are food such as the vanilla planifolia. others are used to greet people in the case of singapore orchids are named after famous people like ex president tony tan : Perreiraara Tony Tan Keng Yam  We learnt to put the pollen of one orchid into another. it was tricky but we did it. we used a dead plucked out orchid to practise.
after a while of practice we were allowed to  work on two live orchids. One of them was the SE yellow bird which looks a little like this this is the pollen parent. it was hard to retrieve the pollen from the yellow bird as it has a long and narrow trumpet shaped lip. 
the seed parent ,is this and we had to find the stigma which is supposed to have the sticky sugary fluid to receive the pollen grains
it was reliving to have put successfully put the pollen grains into the stigma hopefully i have put it in correctly and i will get a seed pod.

we went to the physics lab as there was a piece of equipment that  was not working at the orchidville
we learnt about how to repot orchids that have over grown. there were two types of orchids sympodial and monopodial. for the monopodial one we had to change the old charcoal for the old orchid. then we had to put in a few bamboo sticks and make a t-formation and a longer one to prop the orchid up. for the sympodial uncle tony helped us take out the charcoal by squeezing the plastic pot then we had to split the orchid apart and put it in another pot with new charcoal.
after that we got a seed pod that we had to extract the seed from the seed pod. we had to wash the seed pod of the orchid using detergent. then we had to put it in rubbing alcohol and gently shake it. surprisingly we had to put the seed pod in 10% clorox solution afterwards. i found it surprising as i thought that clorox can only be used to clean the floor. after that we took the seed pod and opened it in a laminar chamber. we had to sterilize the equipment by putting in alcohol and then flaming it. my classmates in front of me have nearly burnt themselves by dropping the whole scalpel in the alcohol and flaming it, dropping the scalpel. a common mistake is made by putting your head into the laminar chamber which would introduce bacteria from your head.
