I think that there are similarities people will share in the prison experience such as missing out on family life, but there are other experiences that not everyone will face, such as bullying and mistreatment by prison staff. Prison is seen by some as a positive experience also, especially for those who suffered harm (physical or mental) on the outside but now do not on the inside.

There are most certainly similarities between people's prison experiences as most prisons would have relatively similar processes. Despite this, every individual would have a different experience in prison as people are widely diverse. Factors such as age, religion, race, and the crime that they committed would have an effect on aspects of their prison stay and their feelings about it. Whether they received support for rehabilitation, and visitation from family and friends would likely also have an impact.

There are many elements that shape individual prison experiment. This may include the crime committed, their age, gender, sexual orientation, ethnicity, mental stability, family relationships and social interactions. These common factors can alter how an individual can be treated or seen by government officials, other inmates and even their own family and friends. There are also structural factors to consider, this can include the structure of the organisation and the physical structure of the prison- why it was the way it was built. Combining person factors and structural elements can alter how each individuals experiences incarnation but their individuality is just a small fraction of the whole experience.

Prison experiences will obviously differ from person to person. As everyone thinks in entirely different ways and no 2 prisons are exactly the same. Some ways that can shape a persons experience could include their mental health, their background, whether their family have a prison background. These are only a couple examples.

Many factors such as mental illness, age, gender, crime you have committed and how long the sentence is will shape a prison expereince.

Prison experiences vary form individual to individual the common experience that we could touch base on would be what should be the direct aim of prisons to rehabilitate individuals. However its often found that this key factor is not met because of factors including age, mental illness, ingrained systemic racism and gender dynamics. Gender dynamics often does not enable prisons to provide fair liveable circumstance to women as found in a recent report almost 40% prisons found that the care takers of prisoners did not have the required facilities needed to support those incarcerated.
