With the rise of America's industrial capacity, this led to many men like John Rockefeller, Andrew Carnegie, Cornelius Vanderbilt, George Westinghouse, etc. All building large monopolistic companies, which increased production of much needed things like Oil, Steel, Electric Power, etc. These made major cities like Pittsburgh, Chicago, and Detroit major industrial centers.

This strike was one of the first massive protests against the terrible wages, and harsh conditions of the time. This strike also showcased the rising class of urban workers, and the rise of labor unions for better representation of common workers.
