Men are portrayed as near alcoholics and unable to sustain a stable life without a woman or wife by their side as Jack Horner regularly consumes alcohol when he is stressed. At the beginning of the story, Jack is drinking hooch as he contemplates about his financial troubles. Jack is later explained to be at the bar when he is stressed about cracking the case. 

Boys who grew up without a father figure to look up to might lead a troublesome life. The story emphasizes this as Sarge O’Grady whom Jack points out to have had an absent father in his childhood grew up as one of the boys who used to pick on Jack while he was growing up, and even when he’s grown up, he fails to make the right decisions even when he works as a Police official.

Females are portrayed as people who rely on their beauty in order to be approved in society. After Humpty Dumpty blackmails the Queen of Hearts, she uses the first chance she gets off killing Humpty as he poses a threat to her reputation as a beautiful woman. 

The writer portrays women as deceitful people as the Queen Of Hearts lies about who she is in order to get what she wants. The Queen of Hearts tells Jack that she is Humpty Dumpty’s sister in order to trick Jack into finding her pictures for her.

The launguage used in the story, The case of the four and twenty blackbirds is non-standard english,because the narrator has used informal language. The use of informal language in this story is to show the reader that the story is set on the present. The words that the characters use or say in the story can identify the character of the person who is saying them. They can also classify the ranking of that person. 

For example :
The words that the Queen of Hearts uses are words that show that she is of royalty or a much higher class.

Jack Horner is a private detective who is experiencing financial problems, he is symbolized as a persistant person, someone who is also after money and pretty girls. He also resorts to alcohol when he is stressed. "The office was crumbling,rent was unpaid and the hooch was my last". This shows that Jack consumed alcohol to escape his worries. Jack adores beautiful girls. "She had long blonde hair and a figure that would have made Thomas forgets his vows". He even breaks his vows of never dealing with women's cases again,after he saw The Queen of Hearts he was so determined to solve Humpty Dumpty's mystery death. He is hired by a pretty lady who claims to be Humpty Dumpty’s sister ,The Queen of hearts,who symbolizes the secret identity as she lied about Humpty Dumpty's death,when she knew that she was the murderer. Sergeant O'Grady represents life obstacle as he pursues Jack to drop the case. "Dumpty's death was an accident that's what the coroner said,that's what I say,drop the case". Jack as a persistant detective in the end managed to find out that The Queen of Hearts is the one responsible for Humpty's death.

First of all, the story is narrated in the present tense,which makes it easy to get caught up in the story and really picture what is happening.

 Types of English language or how language used in a story is not only essential on creating an interest and engaging readers, but it also helps to convey ideas that are not stated in the story.

 In this particular text the writer used colloquial words such as "Yeah", "Hiya", "Dick", "Jeez" ,etc, not only to make the text exciting or interesting, but also to create conversational tone so that readers can fully understand the mood of a character.

Language used in a text can also describe characters in terms of their identity, class, and culture. Like the word, "Hafta", It is slang for protection money collected by 'gangsters' and ‘corrupt policemen’. And by the way they describe money speaks a lot about their class and identity, "let's see the colour of your money, I showed him a fifty, Hell he muttered. It's green"

The use of informal language, words like ‘C"Mon,ma’ notifies readers the background or class of characters in the story.

Characters within the story use secret identities.
At the beginning of the story the beautiful lady introduces herself as Jill Dumpty, but we later find out that she's the Queen of Hearts and was the mastermind behind Humpty Dumpty's death.

The characters outlooks and personalities are affected by crime making their lives more regretful and darker. Humpty Dumpty was a crook that died because of blackmailing the Queen of Hearts. 

Detective Horner was always described as Little Horner which leaves an idea on the readers mind that he's a child with a dark sense of humor and a great desire for money and pretty girls.
