He was the man that called all the shots and made all the decisions.  Jim controlled the people in his cult and soon made way to Guyana to build his own colony with all his followers. he controlled the minds and thoughts of the people seeking refuge from the work through his charismatic ways and teachings. Once word got out about the cult and what was going on there Jim ordered a mass suicide some called a mass murder at his hands. 900 of his 1,000 followers were killed by poisoned koolaid. Jim's son Steven along with few others survived the mass suicide. Jim Jones and his teaching seemed like refuge for some people just looking to feel loved and wanted. Jim preyed on  these people's emotions and fooled them into thinking he was the way to happiness.  Some of the members did not want to commit this suicide and were forced to do so. Jim himself though could not bare to do it himself and was cowardly shot instead . Jim Jones was like a dictator and ruled over his followers and controlled there every move . The congressman went o Guyana with member family with the intent to bring them safely home and was gunned down along with reporters and others people who has accompanied him there to expose Jones. They were brainwashed by his teachings and believed in all his lies. They were almost like captive prisoners . They committed heinous crimes and even killed innocent children and people believing in his words. The group as a whole followed his orders and lived by his rules like a dictatorship. He was the head or ruler and they were the insignificant ones that followed behind him.
