There are are images, videos, actions, etc. of violence all around us. But now more than ever, there has been in increase of acts of aggression in our society (i.e. higher rate of school shootings). Some point to the what modern day video games portray. The APA (The American Psychological Association) acknowledges violent video games as a risk for aggression. Although it is not completely clear whether violent video games are linked to criminal activity, studies conclude that the exposure to these games was correlated to aggressive behavior, thoughts, and actions in both the short-term and long-term.  An international study of more than 17,000 adolescents  from the ages 9-19 years old found that playing violent video games led to an increase in physical aggression over time. The teens in the study were also reported at being at twice the risk of getting into trouble for fighting in an eight-month period. Young children and teens are most at risk to develop this kind of behavior. The impressionable mind of a child or teen is more likely to do what they see . Children and adolescents now days play many video games which are violent in nature, such as Grand Theft Auto or Call of Duty, in which the person is often a first-person shooter or one who commits risky or dangerous behavior. The graphics which are presented in modern games also look as if it were in real life which is appealing to young minds. If and when a child then starts to relate to what they are doing in the game, the child starts to believe that the actions in the game are also acceptable in society which leads to them adopting aggressive behavior thus desensitizing children from actual violence in the real world.
