These assessments show an enormous amount of evidence that must be evaluated. The book lists two reasons why rubrics are necessary, "1) It permits students to see what is central to excellent performance, and 2) it provides the teacher with scoring guidelines that support the equitable analysis student's work." There are many types of rubrics including Generic Rubrics and Task-Specific Rubrics.
