In India, the Hindu rituals performed before a baby is born are called Sanskars. When a woman is going through her seventh month of pregnancy, a ceremony similar to a baby shower called the Simantonnyana is performed. This ceremony has an emphasis on healthy mental development of the unborn child. When the baby is born, Jatakarma is performed. In this ceremony, honey is inserted into the child's mouth while the mother whispers the name of their god into the child's ear. Other ceremonies include Namakarna, the naming ceremony, Karnavedha, the first haircut/shaving ceremony, thought to remove impurities, and much more!
