I thought this lab was fairly successful. I was expecting the cookies to turn out as sweet as the ones you buy at the store, so I was a little disappointed. You couldn't taste too much of the sweetness and I feel that's where my group and I went wrong. We should have added more sugar and salt(to bring out the sweetness). But as far as the texture, it was moist, soft, and cooked all the way through.

In my opinion, the pancakes was one of my most successful labs. The pancake tasted like the ones you would make with Bisquick but our own style. We didn't over-mix the batter so the pancakes were soft and didn't have tunnels. We used the right amount of sugar so the pancakes were as sweet as any other. As for the syrup, it was a little runny but the sweetness and taste was perfect. The syrup didn't taste artificial at all because it was made from scratch.

The muffins lab turned out mediocre for me. Our muffin had the right amount of sweetness but they turned out on the tough side. They would crumble but hold together which is a good sign but when you bit into it, the texture was dry. It didn't have any tunnels so I think the toughness was due to over-baking. As for the rest, the muffin had a golden brown, rounded top like it should.

Biscuits, Applesauce, and Sausage

This was one of my favorite labs because the whole process was long but fun. We had biscuits and applesauce cooking at the same time but were able to keep up. The apple sauce is what turned out the best in this lab, it tasted just like the kind you would buy at the store but had apple chunks. It was delicious and sweet. The biscuits turned out a little dry and I feel that was from handling the dough too much and maybe using too much flour. Lastly, I feel the sausage turned out okay, it tasted like a hamburger patty more than a sausage but had the right amount of seasoning.

By the time we got to scones, we were all pro at making quick breads by now. We threw together the ingredients quickly but made sure not to over-mix the batter. We made sure not to over-handle the dough.

Although I wasn't there the day we put on the toppings and baked the pizza, I was there for the dough and sauce preparation. The dough took a lot of kneading because we had to roll it out into a pizza form. The sauce was fun to make because all the ingredients together filled the whole room with delicious fragrances. We made sure the oil was hot before we stuck in the onions and we heard that satisfying sizzling sound. Then we turned down the heat before throwing in the garlic, making sure we didn't burn it. Lastly, the salt, pepper, and tomatoes.

Pretzels

The pretzels were also one of the most successful labs. Making the dough was easy because we slowly added flour until it came together as dough. Kneading the dough was the hardest part because we all had to knead the dough for minutes. Every time we would press our finger into the dough, it would bounce back. Finally, we were able to knead the dough enough and shape them into pretzels, drizzle on egg wash, sprinkle some salt, and pop it in the oven. The pretzels came out fluffy and moist. The outside was golden brown and salty.

Food Article: Why Salad is so Overrated

We need to rethink how much we all need salads. The vegetables in salad have close to no nutritional value. Four of the five lowest ranking vegetables in nutrition is: cucumbers, radishes, iceberg, lettuce, and celery. It's all because they mostly consist of 95% water. Using the space to plant these vegetables and fuel to ship them and energy to store them, save the earth by skipping the salad.

Restaurant Review: Claim Jumper

Chantal and I did our restaurant review at Claim Jumper. We were craving chicken pot pie so we decided to order that and the California Chicken Quesadillas. The chicken pot pie came with soup so we also got clam chowder. The soup came out first, it was good, but not the best clam chowder I've had. It was a little too fishy tasting and thick. The pot pie came out an 8 out of 10. I liked the filling it had inside but the crust was too crumbly. The crust on the inside of the bowl was too soggy. I loved the vegetables in it. Lastly, the chicken quesadilla was our favorite. The chicken and tortilla were cooked perfectly, not too soggy or overcooked. The tomatoes complimented the chicken well and I don't know what the sauce had in it but it made the whole dish. Overall, 8.5 out of 10.
