         <description><![CDATA[<div><sup>Primary:Primary succession occurs when new land is formed or bare rock is exposed, providing a habitat that can be colonized for the first time. For example, primary succession may take place following the eruption of volcanoes, such as those on the Big Island of Hawaii. As lava flows into the ocean, new rock is formed.<br>Secondary: Secondary succession occurs when the severity of disturbance is insufficient to remove all the existing vegetation and soil from a site. Many different kinds of disturbances, such as fire, flooding, windstorms, and human activities (e.g., logging of forests) can initiate secondary succession.<br>&nbsp;Weather refers to short term atmospheric conditions while climate is the weather of a specific region averaged over a long period of time. Climate change refers to long-term changes.<br>A greenhouse gas is a gas that absorbs and emits radiant energy within the thermal infrared range, causing the greenhouse effect. The primary greenhouse gases in Earth's atmosphere are water vapor, carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide, and ozone.<br>An ecosystem is a geographic area where plants, animals, and other organisms, as well as weather and landscape, work together to form a bubble of life.          <description><![CDATA[<div>1.<sup> What would happen if more than one organism occupied the same niche in an ecosystem?<br> The competitive exclusion principle says that two species can't coexist if they occupy exactly the same niche (competing for identical resources). Two species whose niches overlap may evolve by natural selection to have more distinct niches, resulting in resource partitioning.<br>What happens to an ecosystem if too many disturbances occur?<br> If major disturbances occur too frequently or occur multiple times during an ecosystem's recovery period, they create conditions that can lead to the formation of alternative community states.<br>Explain the competitive exclusion principle and why it is important<br> The competitive exclusion principle tells us that two species can't have exactly the same niche in a habitat and stably coexist.
