She is also a writer, she uses simple text to evoke 'powerful' messages. To make these messages seen, she creates large scale exhibitions of her work, using different materials. Cardus herself is disabled, so she knows from personal experience what it's like to be disabled. In her project she created a vast amount of road signs that each have a meaning. I really like her artwork - its inspiring. Here I tried to make a sign representing pride.
I used a card stencil and slid other piece of card down to create a line of enamel powder. Then I placed the piece into the kiln. Here, six different colours are visible, this was quiet difficult to achieve, as enamel colouring does burn away when exposed to high temperatures for a long time. Therefore, I had to alter my technique. 
To do this, I applied the coloured powder to the previously enamelled disk. Usually I would keep the piece in the kiln for 30 seconds, but because I had six colours (to make the heart shaped) I did this: 30 ÷ 6 = 5 seconds. I made a sketch of this, but used black and white. However, there was a shortage of these colours in the workshop. So, I had to improvise. 
To make the black colour, I used enamel stones, then sprinkled a small amount of powder to the surface, using my stencils. After this layer was melted in the kiln, I chose to use red. I did this because black and red contrast well. 
I liked making this piece, however the icon Isn't very clear. As seen in the image, cracks are visible. I'm not sure why the enamel cracked, but I think it might be due to using enamel stones as the base layer. The top layer of powder melted onto an uneven surface and cracked.

I used a file tool to soften the rough, jagged edges. This applies to health and safety.

In this experiment I chose to explore the design I also made in the workshop. I'm pleased with the outcome of this print making Marquette. At first the ink was untidy. But, after the application of the black ink the quality of this design increased. I have not practised drink making since A&D Year 1. I'm pleased with the fact that I can still remember and produce art using this method. 
When I progress to Barnsle University foundation course, even University afterwards, I aspire to be a multidisciplinary artist. 


This print in particular is quiet uneven. I made three of these, the others were at a better quality, but they got lost somewhere. I'm quiet upset I couldn't find these.
