The activity introduced in this link is a conversation opener activity using 'tic-tac-toe.' The activity break down discussion topics into smaller questions that students have to answer to claim a square. However, these smaller questions could be real prompts that students can use to keep a discussion going.

This is an activity I have used in class to stimulate discussion groups when talking about the students' readers plan.
I usually project the image and as the students to talk about the layers, the parts of the fruit to help guide them to think about the book, characters and themes.
This can also be made into a poster using any fruit they wish to extent the activity and link it to a writing project as well.
I also ask the students to create another question in each of the boxes provided to stimulate more conversation.

Court Room Role Play

Another activity I have done with my students is a role play based around a court case.
The Students all have different roles, prosecutor, witness. judge etc and they acted out a full courtroom scene. This was the end product of their school project, based on discrimination and the manipulation of the media.
The students created an evidence video, picture evidence, press conferences and prepared their cases in groups. It was an ongoing idea that needed a lot of preparation but they really enjoyed it!

This was another activity I did with my students last year. I ask them to create their own podcast in pairs.
The first step was to play them a podcast as a listening activity, I played the link attached with a few general questions to check understanding.
They then had to come up with a topic of their own under the umbrella of global issues: Discrimination, sexism, classicism or overpopulation.
They had to create five questions that they would answer together, recording themselves and uploading the podcast to the school site. We then used the podcasts as foundation for class debates.
