There is 5 zone in the ocean. The sunlight zone, twilight zone, midnight zone, abyss zone and the trenches. The sunlight zone goes down to about 200 m. There is so much sunlight in this zone. This is where most sea animals live. Underwater plants can also grow by using the sunlight to make food (the photosynthesis process). Small fishes, jellyfish, sea turtles, sea lions, coral reefs, seaweed and algae live here. The twilight zone begins at 200 m and extends downward to 1,000 m. This zone is dark. No plants grow here because there is little or no sunlight. However, many animals live in this zone because they have developed a special adaptation to make their own light. Octopus, swordfish, squid live in this zone. The midnight zone extends from 1,000 m to about 4000 m. Animals that lives in this zone can adapt to the dark. Anglerfish, blobfish, giant squid lives in the midnight zone.
The abyssal zone extends from 4,000 m down to 6,000. Sea pigs and sea spiders live in this zone. The trenches is the deepest part of the ocean. It is from 6,000 m below sea level to the bottom of the ocean. Very few organisms live here. The few organisms that live here are adapted to the freezing temperature. Sea cucumbers live in this zone.

Rising seas can cause floods, especially in coastal areas. It is the effect of global warming that melts glaciers and icefields.

An invasive species is an organism that is not native, to a particular area. Invasive species can cause great environmental harm to the new area. Aquatic invasive species, including fish, snails and algae are primarily spread from water to water by human activity, often on boats, fishing gear or other recreational equipment.

Ocean acidification is also caused by global warming. It is a change in the ocean water that can be harmful for plants and animals. Scientists have observed that the ocean is becoming more acidic as its water absorbs carbon dioxide from the atmosphere.

Spilled or leaked oil can contaminate water, making it unsafe for animals and humans who live near the accident.

Bycatch is the act of unintentionally catching certain living creatures using fishing gears. It can happen because modern fishing gears, such as big nets can capture untargeted species.

Overfishing is catching too much fish. It can cause imbalance to the ocean. It reduces some species to such low numbers that they become endangered. It can lead to extinction. It can also destroy the food chain system.

Marine pollution can come from land. Fertilizer, chemicals, plastic can cause pollution in the ocean and harm the ecosystems
