Personally, based on the surveys I took I have a mild indication os high stress and a moderate indication of social anxiety (Psycom, 2021). I know most of my stress comes from my school work. I have struggled with stress throughout my college experience because of the amount of work that needs to go into every class. I also feel stressed in places with lots of people and socially I'm constantly stressed about making the right impression.

In a short-term period of time, stress can affect the body by causing palpitations in a specific moment, or feelings of frustration and anger.

In a long-term period of time stress can have effects that cause more trouble over all. If stress is continuous in someones life it can cause mental problems such as depression and anxiety, emotional problems such as constant feelings of sadness, anger and frustration and physically it can cause sleep apnea and heart disease (Sarafino, 2017). According to the APA website, almost half of the surveyed adults stated that they lay in bed awake at night without being able to fall asleep because of the amount of stress in their lives (American Psychological Association, 2019).

Some ways to cope with stress are by forming habits that help distract the mind for a short period of time from the problems causing that stress. A lot of people turn to exercising, watching a movie, reading, spending time with family and friends (American Psychological Association, 2019).

Personally, I have tried all of the options above but the only thing that had a long lasting affect on my levels of stress was my faith. I find comfort in the promises of God found in the Bible and prayer also helps me remove the worries of my chest by giving them and entrusting them to God.

In my life, faith has been main way of support in stress. Also, I attend a Bible study group of girls where we share prayer requests and our weekly struggles, and that helps me realize I am not alone.

I am also surrounded by a very supportive and comforting family/boyfriend. They know when I have a stressful week at school and they always make sure I have everything I need and try to do everything they can to help relieve some of that stress.

I think that learning about the affects of stress is the first step in recognizing it as a problem. I feel like it is so normal in society to be stressed, but it should be seen as a more heavy problem. Also, learning how to cope with stress will make life overall easier and more pleasant.
