Transparent Wood is superior to glass in terms of thermal insulation and lighting quality, providing a more even distribution of sunlight indoors. Based on the results of the tests, this conclusion was made by the developers of the material, engineers from the University of Maryland.
"Transparent Wood" is a wood-based material with an admixture of polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA). The first prototype of such material was presented in March 2016 by engineers from the Swedish Institute of Technology. In May, it became known about the successful completion of a parallel study conducted by scientists from the United States. The latter managed to create a larger block of "transparent wood" - 12.5 by 12.5 centimeters.Transparent Wood is superior to glass in terms of thermal insulation and lighting quality, providing a more even distribution of sunlight indoors.
A vertical farm is a generalized name for a highly automated agro-industrial complex for growing crop plants using hydroponics or aeroponics methods indoors inside a building specially designed or adapted for this purpose. The main differences between vertical farming and traditional greenhouse farming are multi-tiered plantings and fully controlled indoor climate. Term and idea due to Dixon Despommier

Smart glass is a composite of layers of glass and various chemical materials used in architecture and manufacturing for the manufacture of translucent structures (windows, partitions, doors, etc.), which changes its optical properties (opalescence (haze), light transmission coefficient, heat absorption coefficient etc.) when external conditions change, for example, illumination, temperature or when an electrical voltage is applied.
