One can conclude that many of the prejudice in Maycomb is born out of rumors. Even after, this quote, Scout continues to go on about things she has heard about the Radley Place. This is one of the very first "judging moment". It is clear that Scout does not understand that she, in a way, is being prejudiced.

Furthermore, Atticus says this while defending Tom Robinson (who is a man who faces predjudice), backing up this inference.

In this quote, Scout is talking about Miss Gates' thoughts and beliefs. The "somebody" Miss Gates is referring to is African-Americans. Knowing this, we as the audience can infer that Scout is starting to understand prejudice, for she is confused on why Miss Gates is acting so hypocritical. (Scout is curious to why Miss Gates showed so much hatred towards a prejudiced man, but is prejudiced herself when it comes to African-Americans.

One example of prejudice/discrimination in the present is religion discrimination: In Virginia, a Muslim woman was not hired due to her religion. During her second interview, she asked if she could get two breaks to pray in exchange for her long lunch time. However, they told her that they don't want "religious shenanigans". Followed by that, she did not get the job. This most likely means that if she had not said anything about her religion, she most likely would've got the job. (From NBC News)

Unfortunately, due to the discrimination and prejudice that they face, members of the LGBTQ+ community change their lives and go "undercover" [in a way] to avoid discrimination. By this, they hope that they will be more protected and have a higher chance to succeed in their working environments.
