What do you feel when you look at these images and why?

I felt that these images express a sense of sarcasm and irony. Gallenkuş draws a clear boundary and creates a dichotomy between two different worlds, which makes me be more aware of issues around the world and feel empathy towards people suffering from those issues.

What strikes you or interests you about these images?
The way Gallenkuş combines the contrasting images together is quite ingenious. The images are really different but the audience can feel the connection between them immediately, which could bring more direct and stronger emotions to the audience.

What ideas or messages or global issues do you think he is exploring?

I think he is exploring the global issues of inequality, poverty and wars. He is trying to tell people in developed countries that they are lucky and should be more aware of people suffering from issues such as wars and child labour. At the same time, he also has a message for people in developing countries to think about why their life is not like those of some developed countries and how to become better.

1. What do you feel when you look at these images and why?
I feel a sense of education and a creation of awareness on many different issues and I think this is because with two simple images intertwining with each other Gallenkus creates a clear comparison of two subjects/situations.

2. What strikes you or interests you about these images?
What strikes me is the clear difference between the images but as well as the connection of the two images.

3. What ideas or messages or global issues do you think he is exploring?
I think he's exploring a lot of issues concerning children and this is evident in the first 6 images that depict the different lives children live from a child playing with Legos to child labour. But other issues that he highlights are: war and world hunger. The main idea (I think) is that the divide and contrast between different people's lives are great and this is clear with the comparison to a fashion catwalk which is typically known to have the rich and affluent next to an image of children walking in the desert presumably to get water.

What do you feel when you look at these images and why?

I feel sad and fortunate for the situation I am in as I have lived through some of the images (e.g. jumping on a bed, having a nice bath) whereas for others this is a privilege they will not receive and they face an alternative version of these luxuries. And like how articles have commentated on Gallenkuş's work, it really is an eye opener.

What strikes you or interests you about these images?

The simplicity of them yet the innovation behind them. The editing doesn't seem to advanced but Gallenkuş's creativity which led him to create these images is. And these are not necessarily direct comparisons that we may consider, as in some of these pictures don't just depict what other people have or not (e.g. a fancy bath) but Gallenkuş portrays an alternative world which many of us are aware of but haven't thought of from this perspective.

What ideas or messages or global issues do you think he is exploring?

I think the idea of war/conflict versus peace/bliss. As this theme is demonstrated in a couple photos (e.g. the boy with the guitar/gun, the fighters/tourists in the car and liberty/a missile going off. I believe Gallenkuş is exploring things we take for granted and symbols of our developed society (e.g. a fashion show) which qualities of may be present in other societies (e.g. the fleeing families follow a line like the models) but he still presents this extreme contrast for us to digest and realise how different life is between both sides of the picture.
