Hi! My name's Finn Gaardboe and I'm currently somewhere in my second (?) year of my Vis Com degree. I'm English, Australian and Danish and have lived in the formers back and forth, while visiting the latter regularly. I'm from a family of 5 (parents included) and live with my partner. Both of us work a lot, love travel and Stranger Things, and are both graphic designers.
Unfortunately I don't know a huge amount in regards to our indigenous ancestry but I'm looking forward to learning, and hopefully being able to incorporate it into my design work.
I look forward to working with y'all.

Glad to have you on board! You're the first to post - hopefully some others will join us soon enough...I haven't watch Stranger Things yet but i'm looking forward to binging on it at some stage - along with some other shows like the Handmaid's Tale and the new Twin Peaks.

Hoping you'll come out the other end of this course with a better knowledge and appreciation of the diversity of Indigenous art and design and the philosophies and worldviews that inform them. Whether you can incorporate them in your own work is something we need to think carefully about - certainly ideas of design ethics and appropriation will be discussed later in the course, especially when you come to work on your final assignment

I'm an only child to a single mother, which makes Christmas quite relaxed compared to others!I live on my own with my Greyhound, Kit Kat, and ultimately want to be a character concept designer for games and film. I have done online courses before, and it has been 50/50 in terms of achieving what I need to, so I'm hoping I can keep myself motivated for this course. I'm not usually good with any type of history (except Ancient Egyptian), so will need to work out how to stay focused!

I was born here in Australia, but my mother is from the Philippines so I've been fortunate enough to have grown up with and inherited multiple cultural backgrounds. My background is Taiwanese and I grew up in Taiwan until I was 12, then my family decided to move to Australia. To me home is where my family is, where i feel most comfortable to stay and fit in, where most of my connections are. But, I seriously couldn't define my cultural identity as I really don't have deep understanding in either of the culture. But I also have to admit that I understand Taiwan's culture more (in terms of language, art, tradition and people) due to many reasons. So I am really looking forward to gain more connection and understanding with the indigenous and Australia culture through this course.

My family has lived in Australia for a lot of generations, so it's hard for me to see my cultural identity as anything other than Australian. My closest ancestral links outside of Australia come from England and Germany.

Australia is very much home to me, in fact I've only been out of Australia twice. I've traveled interstate quite a bit, but only ever for a few weeks at a time, and I always come back to Adelaide. I'm proudly South Australian.

I think the other major part of my cultural identity is my Christian faith. While not the "culture" most people here have been talking about, my faith and the Christian culture that I am a part of with my church and my family is very central to my identity, and has really shaped me as a person.

I think this course will be an excellent chance to learn more about a culture I don't know much about, and to think more about my own culture.

I'm born and raised in Adelaide however my parents are from China and Vietnam, which makes me both Chinese and Vietnamese. I am incredibly proud of my heritage. I'm excited to learn more about the Indigenous culture in Australia and broaden my knowledge of other cultures.

My name is Liam and I’m currently in second year Vis Comms (Illustration). Besides my Mums Father who was born in England, both my Parents and their parents where born in Australia. I guess I simply see myself as Australian. Sports and holidays have taken me all around Australia but I’ve only ventured overseas once so I haven’t really had a chance to compare cultures! That being said, I’m happy laying low with my family in SA but always down to experience something new and very open to the idea of traveling at some stage.

With my traveling days ahead of me, I’m excited to first look at the culture in the country I am most familiar with, Australia.

My name is Zoe, I am a part-time vis comm student. My background is Italian and Czech, with my maternal grandparents immigrating from Italy and my paternal grandfather coming to Australia as a displaced person after the war. While I enjoy the culture of my background, I see myself as Australian. And after lots of traveling it has become very apparent to me that home is where my family and friends are in SA.

Hi, my name is Brittany and I am in 2nd year of Visual Arts. I am born and raised in Adelaide along with both my parents however my grandparents were born in Germany, Scotland and England. Even through my family has a strong cultural background and many traditions from my grandparents birthplace has followed them here, everyone of them has embraced the Australian culture which has made Australia home for me. I have traveled overseas and each and every time I go away I realise that I absolutely love Adelaide and the family and friends I have here are what make it so special.

My name is Fangyi and a easier name to call me is Kate. I'm currently in my second year of Visual Arts (Painting). I moved to Adelaide when I was eight years old with my mum and my brother. Every year, we'd take a ten+ hour flight from Adelaide to Guilin (China) during the long break from school.

I don't really understand my culture identity because I'd get very confused when I meet my Chinese families and friends they would tell me that I am Australian, and in Australia people would tell me that I am Chinese. It feels weird, but as long as I am with the ones I love, living in the same place, I call that home.

This course will be a challenge for me but also very exciting!
