World War 1

During this lesson, we learned in-depth about World War 1.
We also discovered the reasons behind the conflict.
I found this lesson very interesting and was able to contribute my knowledge from past research and education.

We were asked to research world war 1.

Below is the information that I discovered.
I have done this n the form of questions and answers.

When did it begin?

World war 1 began on the 28th of July 1914.

How did it start?

World war 1 was initiated because Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria was assassinated on the 28th of June 1914. This catapulted across Europe and lasted until 1918.

Why did it start?

Convinced that Austria-Hungary was readying for war, the Serbian government ordered the Serbian army to mobilize and appealed to Russia for assistance. On July 28, Austria-Hungary declared war on Serbia, and the tenuous peace between Europe’s great powers quickly collapsed.

Within a week, Russia, Belgium, France, Great Britain, and Serbia had lined up against Austria-Hungary and Germany, and World War 1 had begun.

Where did it first take place?

The Great war(world war 1) first took place in Europe it then spread through Africa, Asia, and the middle east.

Who was involved?

Many countries were involved in the 1st world war it initially began with Germany Austria, Hungary, and Turkey against France Great Britain Russia, Italy, and Japan.
And from 1917 the United States.

What caused it to end?

After the final battle of the Meuse-Argonne ended in 1918.
On June 28th, 1919 The Germans agreed to sign the written agreement with the allied and the associated powers. 
This is known as the "Treaty of Versailles" Peace agreement.

Trench warfare

In this lesson, we continued to explore world war 1 we discovered that during the war soldiers built trenches as part of Trench warfare to try and keep as safe as they could throughout these traumatic times.

During the war, the soldiers used these trenches as a defensive military defense mechanism against their opponents. This allowed soldiers to have some protection against enemy fire.
Trench warfare was the major tactic used in both Belgium and France

Soldiers used sandbags, boards, and barb wire to build the trenches they also dug deep holes to keep out of sight and protected as best as they could.

Above is an image of what a trench may have looked like.
This gives you an idea of what the soldiers living conditions were and the hardship they endured as we learned some of them lived like this for more than 4 years.

"A soldiers letter"

During the soldier's life within the trenches, I believe they were very frightened hungry tired dirty, and just wanted to give up on most days to me this shows great strength and determination they had to fight for their country and were very brave to do this.

The soldiers living conditions were dirty and there were even rats and serious infections were caught regularly
I think the soldiers found the most difficult part of the day this is because they were so tired and drained 
or feel like mentally the soldiers were very traumatized as these living conditions were extremely dangerous and they were always living in fear that they might be killed or injured this would mean they would not see their families or loved ones again and I think this would have been a very difficult experience.

After reading "a soldiers letter" I discovered that the soldiers were very unhappy throughout the battles and always had to worry and also be prepared for anything at any time.

The 7 levels of Tension

Today we explored Lecoq and the 7 levels of tension.
These are techniques introduced to relax and calm the performers giving them more of a focused approach to performance. 

Below are the 7 Tension sates

  1. Exhausted or catatonic. The Jellyfish. There is no tension in the body at all. Begin in a complete state of relaxation. If you have to move or speak, it is a real effort. See what happens when you try to speak.
  2. Laid back – the “Californian” (soap opera). Many people live at this level of tension. Everything you say is cool, relaxed, probably lacking in credibility. The casual throw-away line – “I think I’ll go to bed now”.
  3. Neutral or the “Economic” (contemporary dance). It is what it is. There is nothing more, nothing less. The right amount. No past or future. You are totally present and aware. It is the state of tension before something happens. Think of a cat sitting comfortably on a wall, ready to leap up if a bird comes near. You move with no story behind your movement.
  4. Alert or Curious (farce). Look at things. Sit down. Stand up. Indecision. Think M. Hulot (Jacques Tati) or Mr Bean. Levels 1 – 4 are our everyday states.
  5. Suspense or the Reactive (19th century melodrama). Is there a bomb in the room? The crisis is about to happen. All the tension is in the body, concentrated between the eyes. An inbreath. There’s a delay to your reaction. The body reacts. John Cleese.
  6. Passionate (opera). There is a bomb in the room. The tension has exploded out of the body. Anger, fear, hilarity, despair. It’s difficult to control. You walk into a room and there is a lion sitting there. There is a snake in the shower.
  7. Tragic (end of King Lear when Lear is holding Cordelia in his arms). The bomb is about to go off! Body can’t move. Petrified. The body is solid tension.

During this lesson, we learned about world war 2
I found this extremely interesting because I have not studied it in so much depth.
We learned a lot of detailed information regarding world war 2 and even Hitler's regime.
We were asked to conduct our own research on what we had learned and how it would be effective in our performance.

When did it start?

World war 2 which was a global war began on the 1st September 1939.

Why did it start?

World war 2 started because Hitler invaded Poland from the west causing Britain and France to declare war on Germany two days later.
Upon achieving power Hitler transformed Germany into a war state which was determined on conquering Europe for the benefit of the so-called Aryan race.

Who was involved?

Several countries were involved in world war 2 these included Germany, Italy, and Japan who were fighting against France, Great Britain, the United States, the Soviet Union, and also, China.

where was it located?

Most of the battles and combat during world war 2 happened in Europe.
there were also records of East Asia also being s location used.

How did it end?

Adolf Hitler was born to the name Der Führer (German: for “The Leader”)

He was born on April the 20th 1889,  in Braunau am Inn, Austria.
He was found Dead on April 30, 1945, in Berlin, Germany.

Adolf Hitler's father was called Alois and was born in 1837 he was illigimtate.
Adolf Hitler spent most of his childhood in Linz the capital of Austria
Adolf Hitler was not educated at the usual secondary level and because of this, he became an artist. 
he later went on to study at a higher level of education within the creative arts industry.  

Hitler was the leader of the nazi party from 1920 to 1921.
He led the German people to believe that all opponents were a threat and made them believe that if you were not German you were an enemy and you should be eradicated.

On 30th AApril 1945 Hitler was found dead and it is believed that he committed suicide by gunshot wound to the head.
Alongside Hitler his wife of one day Eva Braun, was discovered dead.

Nazi concentration camps

What are concentration camps and why did they exist?

Nazi Concentration camps were built to house prisoners of the war who were not german or nazi followers. They are house type like place where prisoners would have no food wsrmth or access to medication durigthis terrible times

Women, men, and children were out here and had to experience horrific things.


What are the Nazi concentration camps and why did they exist?

What was life like for people living there - explain in detail and include case studies?

There is an ultimate twist at the end as the soldier's son decided to help his friend look for his father who is lost which means him crossing the electric fence and entering the camp grpunds unfortunately the two boys become caught up in a rush of prisoners being forced into a small room and told to strip naked.
This results in them both being gassed in the chamber.
I believe that a; lot of young boys and girls were very innocent and frightened as shown in this movie.

I was involved in the final march with the soldiers 
I found this dance extremely challenging as some of the dancers on my side were not coordinated which made it very difficult for me to stay on time however I managed to overcome this by working with my peers and learning the dance step by step ensuring that we were all in time and in beat

I was so nervous but managed to pull it off and I was so proud of myself for this achievement.
