I think the central idea or main idea of the text is " Don't let people distract you to your goals and always work hard for what you want.

Summary.

Kareem Abdul Jabbar is a young black boy who was born into a house that had always dealt with racism. Kareem was a very smart young boy who never really worried about girls or many people and he was always a kind person who worked very hard for all he wanted.But he had to deal with many people discriminating him just for his skin color. Kareem never let anyone affect him and Kareem always focused on his goals. But as he got older it didn't get easier for him. Once he started basketball he had noticed he was very good and was very tall. Kareem met one of his coaches named coach Donahue which he liked at the start but it all changed once his coach had called him by a racial slur. but like Kareem always did, he stayed focused on his goals not letting anyone get in his way. Kareem had then changed his religion later on in the story and like always the christian people of the church he used to go to did not take it lightly. They were rude about it and did not accept him for his choices. After high school Kareem had many division one offers but decided to go to Los Angeles and go to UCLA. after many wins there he was drafted to the NBA. ultimately he showed much perserverance and focused on his goals prove the central idea.

The things I have learned while reading my novel and all articles is that they dont let African American people give there own story and stereotype them because of there skin. due to this many African American people suffer from many things like depression and suicide. racism is a serious problem for people and some people just dont notice this.
