For the theme we did a democratic vote in which we were each asked to pick a word from the board. I chose dreams as I thought it would be nice choice because you can really use your imagination and it can be personal to you. We worked in pairs to come up with a theme name for our own themes. In the end we each said our theme name and voted for the one we liked best as a collective. The basis of the theme was fantasy and the name was going to be 'Once upon a time' like the beginning of a Grimm's fairy tale.

We wanted something that everyone would be happy to do however this theme felt too restricting for the whole team and Neve recommended that we should re name the theme 'In a land far far away' we all agreed and this way we could take our ideas and be as imaginative as we would like. This shows communication within the team and that we are all able to compromise to create something suitable for everyone.

Today was our first group meeting we discussed the roles that our team would need to fulfil throughout the next 9-10 weeks. Roles including health and safety, set design, performer care, social media. I volunteered to be on the health and safety team as I know I could complete any risk assessments and could design posters on professionalism and performer care and posters for models to understand the rules and space more I asked people if they wanted to join that team however they had already joined different teams.

We discussed what would need to be completed for each team to make the process easy for us all to communicate we decided that we should create a separate teams group chat to our normal one where everyone on the course could discuss professionally what needed to change, be added, what is going on in our teams and why we think its beneficial.

This shows the targets we should be hitting for each week and also reminds us what we did for each week when updating padlet. We were then set a task to create our own timeline to look back on for our independent work so we knew where we were up to.

harvard refrencing

Today we had a session about Harvard referencing in the LRC. This will help as we are always referencing books, magazines, journals and websites. I found the session informative and helpful as referencing is something I struggle with as I only knew very little about it before today.

Referencing correctly avoids plagiarism and any misinformation. It also helps tutors and people marking work to know they can find it in the source whenever needed.

I learnt that when referencing websites I should write it as the authors last name and initial then the year the website was published in brackets and put the title of the site in italics, then type where the site is available with the URL and finally the date I accessed it.

We learnt how to reference journals, websites and books and were shown hoe each one was different and how to approach them. We also got some helpful advice that if we need a reminder we can use our college website to access a video on Harvard referencing. Which I found reassuring because I didn’t want to forget what I learnt.

We had practised how to do each reference it on a piece of paper to see if we could remember how to do it. I thought I did it wrong but I did it correctly which meant I could reference for my coursework effectively.

26/03/25 body painting

Today we had a session on body painting. This is relevant to our project as we can use body painting in our final project. Body painting is something I am interested in including in my final project as I feel it will add more to the character.

The lesson prior we were told to pick a flower print it off and bring it to the next lesson so we had a reference I chose a dark red flower however I feel like I could improve the replica in body painting. I used red, black, green, yellow, and purple water colour face paints. I started off by using a peach lip liner to outline my design. I then started on the edge of each petal with red and block filled the shapes I then added black on the edges of each petal and blended it out. I had to work fast as the watercolour would dry fast. This is something I need to practice with as it is important I can blend before it dries. I added red to blend out the black. I added black in the centre and yellow using a brush where I had broken the bristles to create a speckled effect. I tried adding detail to each petal however it had already dried, so it did not work as well as I would have liked.

Looking at it I think it needed to have more of a 3d effect as it looked flat. I think my outlining and painting needed to be neater. I also think that I should have taken a large step back when outlining to see that it is bigger on one side. This is something I will practice and work on to improve my accuracy and body painting skills.

I have decided to change my character from a goblin character to a look inspired by Lilith. I decided this as I thought I could make an edgier character and use features of Special effects makeup while also creating a fierce makeup look. I also thought about the fact a goblin character would take a lot of time to create, and I want to create full look I am proud of in the time I have. I also want to create something I will enjoy researching and creating a character design around. I want her to have a dangerous but seductive flare at the same time. To achieve this, I think the dangerous aspect of the character would come in the special effects makeup. Burns from hell and charred parts of her up her forearms coming up the arms because she is queen of hell, they could creep up her arms. For a seductive look, a strong makeup with a dark Smokey eye with shades of different red in.

initial idea

My initial idea was to create a creature inspired by a goblin. I wanted toto create a grumpy and grotesque character. In my research I found the video above by mythology & fiction explained on YouTube which I watched on the 27/03/25 after college.

I chose this video as it seemed relevant to my research as I should learn the different types of goblins and where the goblin character idea came from. Goblins are a part of folklore according to the Collins dictionary ‘folklore is the traditional stories, customs of a particular community or nation’ a lot of the time folklore is a story passed around by word of mouth. From watching this video I have learnt that goblins are different in every tale. A lot of the time they love dark spaces and are pretty stupid so usually work in groups they love food and to mope about.

They can be evil villainous creatures that are able to kill or a grumpy henchman sent by someone more powerful. There are many types of goblins however I think the henchman lifestyle for a goblin would be something I would portray in a makeup look maybe adding wounds from the higher ups or stashing coins in the costume to show their greed.

I think that the henchman aspect is perfectly portrayed in the movie Labyrinth where Jareth uses Hoggle to misdirect Sarah around the Labyrinth. Hoggle is forced to betray Sarah as Jareth has a crystal ball where he is able to see everything he wishes. Later in the film Hoggle betrays Jareth to help Sarah but gets into deep trouble by it this shows that goblins can be nice even if they are grumpy they still are sometimes compassionate creatures. Jareth is the goblin king and the whole Labyrinth maze is covered with goblins of all kinds but each goblin wants to keep the baby toby which they kidnapped for themselves.

I am choosing to design a character inspired by Lady Lilith I want to show her vulnerability and power in one complete design. Lady Lilith is the once married to Adam the first man. Lilith is a part of Jewish folklore she isn’t named in the Torah as such however she plays a big part in Mesopotamian and Jewish mythology.

Lilith is known to be the first woman and Adams first wife as stated in Mythology.net(2017) that ‘Lillith is usually portrayed as being a dangerous seductress or a killer of infants. At times, she is also said to be an evil demoness or a practitioner of witch craft who was known to cast vile spells onto men and women who worshiped Jehovah.’

According to Mythology.net(2017) She was made to be Adams partner and to help him she wasn’t made the same as Adam instead she was made from ‘filth and sediment’ this is sometimes thought to be the reason for her behaviours and a belief that she was made to be that way. It is said that Adam thought she was the most beautiful to have been created. Lilith felt that her and Adam were and an equal so when he asserted dominance over her she refused to let him take her power, make her feel vulnerable and put her in a lesser position. Adam thought his role were to be the ‘leader’ and that ‘Lilith should respect his instructions’ he felt that because he was the man he would not be put beneath a woman to protect his masculinity so he could assert power instead of being over ruled. he tried to force his dominance over Lilith and make her listen which in turn would make her flea from the garden of Eden. It is said that Jehovah sent 3 angels after Lilith to bring her back to Adam and when she didn’t they told her she would be made to watch 100’s of her babies die daily. This encouraged Lilith to take revenge on Adam eve and supposed infants by killing and causing pain upon all life itself.

On the website blood, gender and power in Christianity and Judaism (2001) it encapsulates the affect Lilith has over Jewish traditions and beliefs. It also shows the things Lilith s believed to cause in our lives today. For example Lilith is apparently to blame for male erotic dreams and certain ‘needs’ for a man as revenge. This is because she did try to return to the garden of Eden but saw that Adam was with a new partner Eve in response Lilith used Adam and produced demons on earth. Lilith is also allegedly to blame for still birth, the risk of death up to 8 days after circumcision in baby boys and a 20 day risk of passing in baby girls this is thought to be so the babies and their parents can feel ‘Lilith’s wrath’ this is thought to be due to her own hurt of losing her children. However she spares the lives of infants that had ‘amulets given by angels’ in an agreement.

I believe Lilith is a powerful and dangerous character. I believe she is a perfect representation of why you can never underestimate a woman’s power. I also think she teaches that no woman should have to obey a man for their pleasure as everyone is an equal being. However I believe that Lilith’s hurt should not have lead to deaths of children or harm of other beings in the times of BC she couldn’t have made a Facebook post about Adam, speak out or put up a petition for the angels to stop killing her children it was her making an example of what would happen if another man tried to dominate her she also wasn’t allowing a man to disrespect her again the way Adam did.

Today was our last production meeting before the easter holidays. We started off the meeting by discussing our ideas for our project and what we would be doing for our design. I got some amazing feedback on makeup and costume. Neve had explained how the outfit could include leather trousers and it could be revealing as I had explained that my character doesn’t exactly conform to societal expectations and gender ‘norms’. It gave me more ideas for costume and made me think of different elements I could incorporate int my design.

We then spoke about delegating teams and who would be best for each role. We went back to our 2nd meeting where we said a role, shared ideas that we each had and wouldn’t mind doing. I had said that I want to be on the health and safety team as I feel it’s something I would be good at and could think of ideas of what needs to be done to ensure safety. I had mentioned in the meeting that I could create posters for health and safety as a reminder for makeup artists and also posters for models to know the general rules of the makeup room. I had said I was on this team and at the time I was the only person to put forward for health and safety which shows my efforts to ensure no role is left un done. I made a conscious effort to be on the team for the reasons stated above as I know my health, safety and hygiene skills are things I pride myself on and know I do effectively with the knowledge of why these things are important.

sampling SFX burns

I chose to spend a section of my day doing SFX burns by using sculpt gel. I started by preparing my station and I used a spatula to mix the components on my pallet until it became a malleable substance. I then used my spatula to create a 3rd degree burn shape with bits hanging off, so it looks like the skins peeling. Then once it had dried, I used the middle two lighter shades in the Graftobian foundation pallet to make the base of the burn all one colour so I can add the redness in areas. And shade. I used a regular contour shade to create depth to the wound and added the red shade from my bruise wheel that was buffed out on my bed roll to create a softer effect. I added deeper shades of browns in the areas that the sculpt gel wasn't placed to create a peeled away effect. I then added washing up liquid to my blood from Ben Nye and added blood over and around the burns.

I think the makeup needs to be improved as I think it wasn't what I wanted. I think the blood needs to be strategically placed rather than just being everywhere and I could add boils and make it look like the bottom of her hands have turned black and charred a bit like the lava from a volcano when its cooling down.

When trying this updo as I was just experimenting and seeing what I could do with the hair in the moment and to see where my creativity would take me. I tried to do a hairstyle inspired by ancient Greek goddesses’ I had seen diagrams of Greek hair which are on my mood board. I had done this as I am unsure what hairstyle I’m wanting to do for the hair however I know I would like to make the hair extravagant and look like my character is rich. I then used foam builders to add height to the centre of the hair and left a big section out at the front of the head to add volume. I had tried to wrap the hair by crossing the two sections over tuck the hair under the foam multiple times however it kept falling down I sook the foam from the front of the head and centred it further back to create stability in the up do and create more coverage on the foam builds so they are disguised.

To do this I sectioned the hair down the middle and then took a section from about 2cm from the forehead down to the top of the ears and placed the foam builder where the 3 sections come into connect in the centre of the head and added hair grips to keep it in place.

I then sectioned the front pieces of hair and was trying to figure how to pin the hair. My tutor came and demonstrated the way she would do it I later tried this method and it was successful she advised that I leave more hair out the front so I can make little loops at the front. The steps were:

· Grab the section and backcomb to the root

· Spray a bit of hairspray when back combing

· For the sides pull the hair tight onto the sides and smooth it out with a comb

· Tuck it under the foam builder and put grips under the foam builder to hold the piece in place

· For the top make sure the sides and top look connected

· Back comb the section your using spray with hairspray

· Bring hair over foam builder a bit looser than the sides and tuck the hair underneath the foam builder with hair grips.

· Continue the steps all the way round secure it with hairgrips and hair spray

The next time I do this up do I will try making it a complete bun or section some hair at the bottom and curl the rest of the hair instead of having an uneven piece of straight hair at the back which looks accidental.

Today I wrote out my budget for my costume. This is important so you know the total price if the costume. If it were any professional set there would have to be a budget for every department. The total cost of my costume was £69.63.

I had a pair of black angel wings at home that were £3.00 from amazon that I used for my Halloween costume prior so that is also a part of the costume but I’m just re using it. My model isn’t the same size as me so I couldn’t re use any clothes I had of my own. my model has a pair of black heels i am using for my costume as well.

I wanted to practice some hair for my final piece I decided to do a bun with some braids. I started by sectioning the hair I did two sections in the front and did a half up half down ponytail and then tied both sections after slicking it with gel and hairspray and slicked it down into a ponytail.

Then sectioned the pony tail and covered each section in gel I then wrapped each section around the bobble in different directions and pinned them in the bobble using hair grips. I then secured the bun with a bobble and pins.

Then I sectioned the two-front pieced into two on each side and plaited each section I gelled them and crossed the plaits over the head and pinned them in the back.

I gelled the two front plaits and left them down the side of the face.

Overall, I enjoyed doing this hair and am planning on doing this style for my final design maybe changing some parts however I’m not sure what yet.

While at home I decided to practice the burns gelatine and body paint for my character I didn’t have my makeup kit at home, so I had to work with my own makeup collection which wasn’t very great. My aim was to make her arms look like lavas coming up her arms because she’s the queen of hell and heat rises so I wanted it to look like it was cascading up her arms like she was becoming part of hell.

I started by using sticky nail tabs and adding black nails on my hand. I made some gelatine however forgot to add glycerine and added too much water. It ended up being more of a liquid and I had to wait ages for It to go sticky. However, I decided to put the mixture all over my arm as I was curious what it would do if I just applied it on the skin. It ended up cracking and looking like dried skin, so I thought this would be perfect for when I’m making the arms look like igneous rock with pats of her arms with molten lava how lava usually looks after its erupted.

Once the mixture thickened up I added blobs of it on the arm to create boils and blisters. I then used black eyeshadow sprayed with setting spray to create a liquid like paste and painted over my fingers and palm while letting the gelatine dry.

Then I started to add shadows using different reds oranges and brown eye shadows. I used a small angled brush to create a pattern on the arms like the fire had caused the skin to disfigure. I added orange onto the boils to make them look like they had been filled with lava and puss.

I want to practice this arm look with silicone and gelatine more. I think next time I’ll drag the colour further up the arm and add fake blood and be neater with my work.

Gelatine can be used in SFX makeup to create burn effects when cooled down it can create jelly like blisters on the skin. When colour is added the blisters can look realistic and sore.

You can buy gelatine from pro makeup suppliers for example tilt sells 3d gel which is gelatine that you just heat up in the microwave or hot water to create a liquid consistency like any other gelatine. I will be making my own gelatine by buying the gelatine powder and glycerine from asda to do this I will:

· Add the gelatine powder too as small dish

· Then add a small amount of glycerine

· Slowly mix in some water

· Then put it in the microwave or 15-20 seconds

· Then cover it with cling film or a lid

· And put it n the fridge to set

You must let it col own before you put it on the skin as it could burn and cause injury.

Janus Vinther (2002, pg. 156) states that powdered gelatine is a food product made from pulverised bones of animals. Used as a starching agent in foods and sweets. for use in special effects, mix the power with water and bring to a boil s you get a thick porridge like mass, then dd a little glycerine. The substance is used for making burns, severe disfigurations and deformities of the skin. Little shreds of tissue paper or cotton wool an be added to the mixture to simulate sinews and bits of flesh apply the lukewarm mixture directly to the skin. When the gelatine is completely dry, it can be painted with cream make-up. Products and effects made using gelatine are not long lasting as the substance is perishable. Powdered gelatine is available from butchers.

This links to my project as I plan to use gelatine on the arms of my model to create burns and boils up the arms to make it look like my character has lava coming up her arms as she controls hell an all things bad.

Vinther (2002) special effects make-up London: A&C black publishers limited

Today I made a temporary poster on professionalism after our production meeting. I felt like having a poster in the early stages around the classroom would be beneficial to see if anyone from the team could think of anything else or could come and ask me about. During this Neve had asked if she could be on the health and safety team as she thinks it would be a good idea to do a presentation on professionalism and a reminder on health and safety rules. I thought this was an amazing idea and shortly after we invited molly onto our team as she thought she could contribute to the team effectively. This shows our ability to communicate effectively. Communication is a key skill that all makeup artists should have to they are able to do their role.

I came up with a list of the main things that should be remembered when working in a makeup environment for example wearing all black, so makeup doesn't stain other shirts and to look more professional. I think that when I develop the poster in the upcoming weeks, I will add more rules to it and the reasons as too why next to each reminder.

On my shoulder she created a flat scab like wound using scar wax I thought it looked incredible.

Being a model for the competition was a good experience and a good insight into what our competition could be like. I was thinking about how we could incorporate different elements into our competition and what it would take to create a competition like that.

I explained that I had done my budget for my costume and had done some research on gelatine.

Robyn had said she was unsure where to look for characters with realistic stone elements on their makeup I had mentioned how doctor who has an episode called blink about weeping angels that are made of stone I said its old and that Stephen Moffatt came up with the idea for doctor who but it may come to use for her research.

This shows that I have a good understanding on outside knowledge as I had given her the information I knew about a certain show to help her with her work. I think this also shows my efforts to help my teammates as I helped resolve an issue.

For this burn practice I used silicone. I mixed the silicone together on my palette and added it on my forearm and on my hands. I let it dry and then added some colour. I used the Illamasqua palette and the beauty bay brights pallet.

I used black, brown, orange and reds. I also used the bruise wheel from Ben Nye around the silicone. I used browns to create shading and scars on the arm. I then added some fake blood around the wound.

I think that this makeup is ineffective. Due to the fact the black looks ashy and it doesn’t look as powerful as id like it too stand out on the arms.

Next time i will use grease paint for the black and orange and then use eye shadows to set it. Also next time id like it to go further up the arm.

Sculpt gel is a product with 2 or 3 components that when mixed together create a paste like mixture. It is used to create wounds in special effects makeup. It can create torn skin, blisters. Cuts or any other wounds that need to have depth or flesh shown.

Sculpt gel can be bought on any professional supplier’s makeup website. In it there is 2 parts of the silicone and a softener to create the substance. Unlike gelatine silicone doesn’t need heating up in the microwave. Silicone is just mixed onto a pallet and is able to be applied straight to the skin.

Your able to set the sculpt gel once its dry with some setting powder so you can get rid of the shine. However, a lot of the time blisters and burns can look shiny. And you can use a spatula to carve in when its in between the drying stage and it’s just a little tacky.

For my design I want to use silicone alongside the gelatine to create lave arms. I want to use the silicone to create torn skin and like the lava has caused the skin to disfigure and scar or causing deep burns.

My process for using silicone is:

· Use a clean spatula and get a decent scoop of part a on my mixing palette

· Then clean off or use a different spatula and take the same sized scoop of part b again on my mixing pallet.

· Then clean spatula again and then I scoop part c which is the softener and put it on my pallet

· Then mix it all together until it becomes a smooth like paste.

· Id then apply it to the skin and mould it into the shape I want using my spatula

· Then I let it dry for a little bit

· Then add a small amount of powder

· And use cream products and powders to add a deeper effect

SFXzone(silicone makeup effects 2025) says that silicone is more durable and last over a long day. They came up with a list of pros and cons of using silicone which I found interesting for example:

Silicone Benefits

Very durable

Easy to work with

Easy to remove

Silicone Disadvantages

A bit pricey, but it’s worth the price

Limited time malleable

Must not be used near latex as this will cause it not to dry

This is my makeup budget a budget is necessary for makeup artists as it allows the company your working for to see how much of the budget you’ll need. It’s also a good idea to have a budget of your own so you can see where you purchased items for a restock and how much it would be. It’s also good to have in your kit to ensure you have everything in there and haven’t lost anything or ran out of any products.

Today I went into the LRC and finished the professionalism posters for the class. I had started this in the LRC with molly however I never exactly got it finished. So, I took time out of my day to ensure that I could get this done.

I had a word document which I had planned out the professionalism poster on which I had found helpful as I had a clear view of how I should set out the poster.

I made four separate sections:

· 1 for how makeup artists should present themselves

· 2 for the hygiene of the makeup artist and their kit

· 3&4 health and safety

I then listed everything in the columns a makeup artist should remember and out of habit, explain why we should do those things and what they prevent. I thought that this would help the team as it keeps them on track and reminds them to be hygienic and professional.

I sent a message into our teams group chat and asked for their help and opinions on the poster in case I needed to change anything and so the team were aware of the poster and had a digital version on the team group chat that they could go on and use as a reminder before the competition what they should do as preparation.

Sophie had said to change some words and the order of some of the words as it didn’t make sense.

I think this shows my up to date knowledge on how a makeup artist should be professional, my work ethic as I double checked everything and took my time on it to ensure it was presentable, and my collaboration as I had asked the team what they thought on the poster and changed anything they thought needed tweaking and me an molly worked together to come up with summaries of each section on our first sit down when creating the poster.

Today I practiced SFX cuts on my hands and arms as I was doing cuts on the face and I wanted to practice cuts over curves of features as I was wanting to use silicone or scar wax on the nose and cheekbones, I wanted to try it out on my hands first.

Palm cut

I did one on the bone under the thumb with scar wax I moulded it around my hand and smoothed it out with a small amount of Vaseline then sealed it ready to cut and colour for this I used setting powder. After this I used my spatula to use the purple shade and red shade out of the ben nye bruise wheel and put it on my palette. I then used a small, angled brush to fill in the cut and give it some dimension I then used a small fluffy brush again with bruise wheel gently over the cut to show some slight bruising.

To add more depth, I used brown eyeshadows on an angled brush to and applied it on the outer edge. I then added some fake blood however the outer edge of the makeup was too thin and the blood seeped through and the wound unfortunately moved and got ruined.

Silicone Wrist cut

For this one I used silicone and applied it on my wrist and waited for it to set a little and then use my smaller spatula with a pointier edge to create a slice. I then set it with setting powder and used my Illamasqua palette in the two purple shades on a fluffy brush and dusted over the wound gently.

I then used the bruise wheel again with the same angled brush I used for the hand and added more dimension into the wound. I then used another fluffy brush with a different brown shades one light, medium and deep browns to create shadows and depth into the wound. I didn’t add fake blood onto this wound as I wanted to make it look like the wound had stopped bleeding and had been cleaned.

Hand cuts

For these wounds I wanted to see how effective drawn on wounds would be so I used a light brown eyeshadow on an angled brush and sketched lines on my hand I then used the purple in the Illamasqua palette on a small brush and shaded in the cuts to add more dimension.

I used the same angled brush with the browns on and used it outside the cuts to show some depth and make them seem realistic. I then added some of the bruise wheel shades I used on the others and added some blood on the wounds.

Silicone knuckle cut

I used silicone on the knuckle and strategically placed it so I wouldn’t need to cut into it I made two lines of silicone and blended the edges on the knuckle like it had been sliced. I then used my setting powder to set it and then used a dark brown shade in the cut to add depth into the wound I used the same angled brush with the bruise wheel in the cut.

I then used the fluffy brush with the bruise wheel on the outer edges on the cut. I then added fake blood on the wound and placed it where I wanted it I also smudged it around the wound like the person had tried to stop it from bleeding.

This was my first practice of this makeup I wanted to experiment with the placement of the wounds and the shape of the eyeshadow. I set up my phone to create a timelapse of me creating this look as I wanted to post it on my makeup page on Instagram. For this look I:

Base

For the base I started off by prepping my skin by cleansing and moisturising my skin and then I colour corrected any redness I had on my cheeks and chin using a cream light green shade over the redness. I then added the two lightest shades of the Graftobian foundation palette and applied dots on my face then blended it out using a dense foundation brush ensuring that I don’t take it into the hairline or the brows. I then use a flat concealer brush to get in small areas of the face and to blend it closer to the brows.

I then added contour and structured it under my cheekbones and blended up, so it gives a lift effect to the face. I added some to the forehead and stippled it into the skin, so it doesn’t create a harsh line. Stippling is a great effect in makeup rather than dragging the brush it means the product stays where you want it to, reduces streakiness and it also means you have full control of the makeup.

I then added some blush just above the contour however I didn’t want it to come across as strong. So, I patted the brush o the bed roll on my bay so it took off any excess blush as the blush I used is quite pigmented.

After this I used the RMCA setting powder and set the face and pressed it into the skin ensuring longevity. I then repeated contour and blush in powder form using less this time so it wasn’t too harsh and unblendable.

Eyes

I started off by using an angled brush in a light purple shade from the Illamasqua palette and created a triangle shape on the eye I tool it quite far out on the eye. However, I didn’t really like how this looked in the end so I have changed this for the final look. I used the bright palette and berry palette from beauty bay and created a Smokey eye. The colours I used were primarily red and black with a red shimmer. I then used cake liner to create a thick eyeliner which I am also changing for my final design as it just took away from the look.

Lips

For lips I used a black kohl eyeliner pencil on the lip line and drew around them I then used a red lipstick and a lip brush and blended the black and red to create an Ombre effect it didn’t exactly turn out how I wanted to. I will improve this by using a lighter shade and blend it better.

SFX

On the nose I used scar wax and created a slice effect I set it with baby powder and cut it in the middle I found that it was tricky to do this on your face as I had to re do it 3 times and the edges just didn’t look blended. I had tried to create more cuts on the face but didn’t like them for the other wounds I wanted to see how effective drawn on wounds would be on the face so I used a light brown eyeshadow on an angled brush and sketched lines on my forehead and cheekbone.

I then used the purple in the Illamasqua palette on a small brush and shaded in the cuts to add more dimension. I used an angled brush with browns on and used it outside the cuts to show some depth and make them seem realistic. I then added some of the bruise wheel shades in red and purple and added some blood on the wounds.

Her look was a space princess I had mentioned that she could have created patches on the joints of her model that had a block of colour blended out and shimmer over it.

I recommended using grease paint as the base setting it with eyeshadow and adding a shimmer over top. This way it looks like some of the galaxy has rubbed off on the joints and collar bones.

This shows my teamwork and ability to think of ideas on the spot to benefit my team. Molly took my idea into consideration and said she would practice the design.

Team discussion

We discussed that we should come together and buy snacks and water for our models. Neve had said if we send the money to her she will go and get it.

I mentioned about the posters and put them in the production folder in case anyone needed to copy it.

Today we went to Teesside uni fashion show. I found this to be a good experience as it shows us as a class what it is like to work in the fashion industry. We learnt how to do effective model care and stepped out of our comfort zones by working with people we had never met.

It was a high-pressured environment, but it made me realise how the industry works. I was seeing how we could incorporate elements of the show into the competition. I think that for our competition we should put shared products on a table in the middle of the room or have a communal space for the models to have breaks.

I think this shows my ability to share with my team ideas for their own project and give advice to my peers.

Today we confirmed our team for health and safety. On the team it is mew neve and molly. Neve created a group chat on teams so we can talk about what’s happening in the health and safety sector this was beneficial as we could then talk in our own little group about things we need to do.

For example we need to do things on model care, professionalism and risk assessments.

We decided our roles and who would do what. I had already created a professionalism poster but it needed updating as it was only temporary. So, I said I would crate the poster. Neve was doing the risk assessments and molly was doing things performer care.

Overall this shows our commitment to the project and our collaboration. I know this because it means we are able to take a big role on for the team and worked together to make the area safe for our models and our team.

This is my model for my final design. It is important to confirm your model in advance so you can order a costume and prepare them. It is ideal to have a backup model however my back up models cancelled on me so luckily my main model was fully up for it and wasn’t going to cancel.

I had prepared my model and told her I would pack her lunch I was going to make her a packed lunch including a sandwich of her choice, crisps, biscuits, yoghurt and chocolate. I also had told her to bring a water because she prefers juice over water.

My model has a tic in her eye luckily, I have worked with her before and am used to this so I am now prepared in case it happens on the day. I will make sure my model gets enough breaks on the day and is comfortable.

I told her to pick a book to bring and her earphones so she can stay entertained as it will be a long day. I had said to wear cycling shorts under her clothes as the skirt is see through and for her comfort she should bring them with her and maybe bring a hoodie as she gets cold easily.

Today I added to my wings for my costume.

I wanted the wings too look injured like she had fell from heaven so I took some feathers off and bent the wings a little and painted them in a maroon colour with some red so it would be red.

I added the red in the centre of each side of the wings where they connect together. Showing that Lilith was forced to be a demon due to her difference of opinion and refusal to allow someone to control her.

I think the wings add to the design as it shows she is the opposite of eve and could have been in heaven if her life didn’t plan out the way it did.

Today was two days before the competition so I practiced at home my burns on someone else’s arms so I could time it. It took 40 minutes for what I did however I didn’t do the full thing so it may take just over an hour do complete one arm.

This time I only used silicone however I plan on using gelatine too on Thursday. I started by placing the silicone on the arm and created blister like bumps on her hand. While I let that set more I used a sponge and grease paint to paint the palms of her hands black and her finger tips and in different areas of the arms and blended it out.

I then used orange grease paint on a different sponge and added it in the areas I wanted to look like lava. Once the silicone had dried a little I used the RMCA setting powder to set the greasepaint and then dusted it off with a fluffy brush. I then used the red from the ben nye bruise wheel to create wounds and tissue scars to the arm.

I like this attempt at the makeup however on Thursday I will ad gelatine and blood. I may see if I can add anything to the arms if I have time.

This took around 10 minutes.

I started by sectioning the hair I did two sections in the front and did a half up half down ponytail and then tied both sections after slicking it with hairspray and slicked it down into a ponytail and using a spoolie with hairspray on to control her baby hairs.

Then sectioned the pony tail and covered each section in hairspray.I then wrapped each section around the bobble in different directions and pinned them in the bobble using hair grips. I then secured the bun with a bobble and pins. My model has more hair than my manaquine head. Therefore I had an opportunity to make the bun larger. I had put the hair in smaller sections to give the hair more volume and layers.

Then I sectioned the two-front pieced into two on one side and three on the other as I had measured each side unevenly. I thenplaited each section I sprayed them and created a crown like band with the plaits over the head and pinned them in the back underneath the bun with hair grips.

I hairsprayed the two front plaits and left them down the side of the face to create framing pieces so the had even more too it.

For the base I started off by prepping the skin by cleansing and moisturising my models face.

I then added the two lightest shades of the Graftobian foundation palette and applied dots on the forehead and multiple around the face then I blended it out using a dense foundation brush ensuring that I don’t take it into the hairline or the brows.

I then use a flat concealer brush to get in small areas of the face and to blend it closer to the brows.

I then added contour and structured it under my models cheekbones and blended up, so it gives a lift effect to her face. My model has quite a structured face so I didn't want to shorten her face or round it out so I went under her natural bone structure to create the look I wanted.

I added some contour to the forehead and stippled it into the skin, so it doesn’t create a harsh line on the forehead as that makes it look muddy.

Then I added some blush just above the contour however I didn’t want it to come across as strong. So, I patted the brush on the bed roll on my bay, so it took off any excess blush as the blush I used is quite pigmented I then dipped my brush into it again and went over the blush to layer it better.

After this I used the RMCA setting powder and set the face and pressed it into the skin. I then repeated contour and blush in powder form using less this time, so it wasn’t too harsh and unblendable.

I started off by using an angled brush in a light purple shade from the Illamasqua palette and created a triangle shape on the eye I created a slight wing on the outer corner . My model has hooded eyes so I wanted to make the eyeshadow visible with her eyes open.

I used the bright palette and berry palette from beauty bay and created a Smokey eye. I used a small dense brush and used black and smoked out the lower lash line.

The colours I used were primarily red orange and black with a pink/red shimmer.

I then used cake liner to create a thin eyeliner on the outer edge which I blended with black eyeshadow so it all blends together.

I applied mascara using a spoolie and then applied lashes after I completed everything as my model isn't used to them so I didn't want them to make her uncomfortable for the whole day.

My model has a tic in her eye I know this as I have worked with her before and it always happens when I do her makeup. However, her eye didn't twitch once while doing the makeup and only twitched while putting the lashes on .

This caused her eyes to water and the lash glue leaked off her lashes. I used a disposable lip brush to dry her tears to protect the makeup. I ensured the whole time my model was ok and wanted to continue. I gave her a small break until she was ready to put the lashes on so it didn't happen again. This shows my empathy as I helped my model and my model care as I gave her breaks and only continued when she was ready.

This time I used both silicone and gelatin. I started by using a sponge on one arm with black grease paint while I asked my tutor to hear up my gelatin and waited for it to come back.

I didn't add glycerin into my mixture when I made it therefore it was very liquidy. This was the perfect consistency. I covered my models arm in Vaseline to ensure no product hurt her during removal. I used a craft brush once it wasn't hot (which I tested it on the back of my hand) and created 5 layers of liquid gelatin on each of her hands and dried it with a hairdryer in between.

Once it was fully dry I asked my model to scrunch her hands to create a flaky effect I also took the pointy end of my spatula and peeled some areas. I did this so the cracks looked like lava.

Then I painted her arms with black grease paint and orange grease paint while keeping on blending them into eachother aswell

and created blister like bumps on her hand. While I let that set more I used a sponge and grease paint to paint the palms of her hands black and her finger tips and in different areas of the arms and blended it out.

I then set the grease paint with the RMCA setting powder and dusted it off with a fluffy brush.

Once the gelatin had cooled into a gelly like formula I added it onto my models hands and arms. I heated with a hairdryer it a little on her arms as it had cooled too much so it wouldn't stick I then used orange grease paint to make it look like chunks of lava.

I used a red/orange on a small fluffy brush and brushed it over her knuckles and palms so the black didn't look completely flat.

I then applied small amounts of silicone on the outside of the arms to create burns. Once the silicone had dried a little I used the RMCA setting powder to set the greasepaint and then dusted it off with a fluffy brush. I then used the red from the ben nye bruise wheel to create wounds and tissue scars.

Finally I strategically placed the fake blood where I wanted it.

I used acrylic paint for the background and used a dish sponge and paint brushes to create the look I wanted.

I didn't have much of a method however I used yellow, orange and brown on my mood board. I chose these colours as I thought if you look at a fire these are the colours you tend to see.

I thought that it linked to my character very well as she is a demon and the queen of hell therefore she is always surrounded by fire.

silicone writing on forearm

I used silicone on the inner forearm to spell the words hell and demon like it hand been burned onto her.

I slowly created each letter on the arms the making of the letters took around half an hour.

Then I set it with some setting powder I then used the same red/orange shade I used on the knuckles over these words and then I used an angle brush with some of the red and purple bruise wheel to create scab like dots over the words. I then added fake blood under the letters so it looked like she was bleeding from within.

I hadn't previously planned this to go on my look however I had 2:30 left on the timer and I thought my look could use something else. I thought of words to do with Lilith and chose hell and demon and got to work.

This shows my flexibility and my ability to think on the spot as I wanted to make my character look even better and thought what to do on the spot.

veins

I saw this makeup look on Pinterest and fell in love with it. It reminded me of veins I want to incorporate something like this into my makeup look.

I think I might add veins to the neck of my character as no one cared to listen to Lilith in the ancient history of her, so I want to represent her pain of not being able to share her thoughts because she seemed as less than due to her being a woman.

To do this I am going to use red, teal, blue and yellow greasepaint on a thin craft brush and draw veins cascading up her neck and down her shoulders. I think this would add to my look more and give it more dimension and something to make you think about.
