I think assessments are stressful for students. I think they provoke a lot of stress.

As a teacher, it is important for me to review the quiz with my students. I repeat questions so students who pay attention should be able to get those questions correct.

Assessment allows me to gain a better understanding of what my students need. I try not to think of assessments as paper pencil and standardized. On daily basis I am assessing my students through observations and task completion. Through this assessment I am then able to individualize learning.

When I think of assesments I have a mental image of my students who have difficulty showing their learning on traditional test shutting down, feeling stressed and even crying.

When I think of assessment, I often think about the hours that are spent studying feeling like you are not getting anywhere and being stressed about having to take an exam.

Data Data Data...This is exactly what I think about when I hear test. Reviewing student data, comparing it amongst other assessments and then making a plan of what we are going to do from here. But can we really make any growth when there is so much testing and no time for actual teaching to take a moment and sink in?

Okay, I don't like the amount of assessing we do, but some of it gives great information. I like daily assessments that are short sweet and target specific information. Mostly I think of how it is a stressor.

I think of a student taking a test on paper. I know that this isn't the only kind of assessment, but it's what comes to mind.

Even though assessments help me track progress and how students are doing. In our District we assess too much! It is very stressful for students and teachers.
