Before recently pursuing my degree I spent 10 years as an Explosive Ordnance Disposal Technician (Bomb Squad) in the Marine Corps. I was medically retired from the Marine Corps after being wounded overseas in 2012. In my free time I coach youth sports and like to spend time with my family. My favorite subjects math and science. I’ve always enjoyed science and math for a few different reasons. In science I always enjoyed making a educated guess or a hypothesis about what may happen or what’s going to happen in an experiment. When we properly use the scientific method you get to see the actual results and reflect back.  Another reason I was like science and math is it’s not like English or writing specifically. When I was in elementary school the rules of english composition would always frustrated me. gI would always ask why we have the rules that we do. I was always told, well that’s the rules. With math everything is either formula based or its a fact. The school that I went had a science fair that they set up in the gym once a year. Every third, fourth, and fifth grader had to create a display with an experiment that they created. No I never won the science fair, but I did create a great experiment with my father that was an example of ohms law. My dad had a mechanical engineering and electrical engineering background. He help me create what was basically a dimmer switch with a spring stretched out to prove ohms law. The greater amount of distance the voltage had to travel creates resistance, this in turn would dim the light bulb.

At the least I would say to teach them anything that they need for their future classes or testing that they’re required to complete. Something else I want to add is that when I finish school and begin to teach, if I do end up in a second grade position I would like to you is to incorporate more science into my lesson plans. I realize that in first and second grade the only testable material or material that makes a difference for retention or advancement is the reading level of the student. In my opinion sometimes subjects like science get brush to the side when planning.
