So ... it was the day before Thanksgiving.

My husband came home from work with a 25-pound turkey. It was the size of a 3-year-old. It was a turkey that was going to need some serious cooking.

At first I tried stuffing it in the fridge. It won't fit. Then, I think maybe I can leave it on the porch. But then I imagine all 8 of us (Yes! A 25-pound turkey for 8 people!) getting food poisoning. So I take everything out of the fridge, stuff this turkey in and try to pack the milk and side dishes around it.

Now, I'm feeling a little guilty. Like I just stuffed my toddler in the fridge.

Finally, it's 3 a.m. I'm up (not that I really slept) to season the turkey and preheat the oven .... and THE TURKEY WON'T FIT.

It's too big. I'm frantically shedding oven racks, wondering how I can make the oven bigger or the turkey smaller.

Finally, I take the lid off the turkey roaster, and push the turkey down until I heard some bones cracking and wedged it in the oven.

Forget basting, turning the pan so the bird cooks evenly, or even opening the oven door ... I was just hoping for the best.

Fast foward to dinner: The turkey comes out of the oven .... golden brown, moist and delicious.

My jaw dropped. My husband took pictures.

He said it was the best turkey he ever bought.

The day I almost died from eating Thanksgiving turkey.

As we sat around the table waiting for my grandparents to bless the food. I was thinking about what foods I wanted to eat first. Or was going to eat some sweet like cake, cookies, pies ect....I usually eat collard greens and corn bread first on all the thanksgiving holidays. This time in 2003 I decided to eat turkey first which was out for the ordinary for me. As I watched my aunt slice me a piece of turkey, I wanted to tell her never mind I'll get ham instead but she insisted to eat the turkey first. My first bite was dry and tasteless like the bird didn't drink water its whole life span. When I took a second bite of the turkey something went wrong I couldnt breath and gasping for air. In the moment I could feel the piece of turkey in stuck in my throat. My cousin was just standing there laughhing thought I was playing because I joke around a lot. Seconds later I was turning red in the face. I could hear my cousin screaming Kya is a choking. I remember my aunt beatin my back like was getting whopping. I knew I had a few seconds and my life was over. I will ate turkey again I almost choked to death on dry turkey.

Nowruz, the Persian New Year, and it begins at the same time as spring. People wait for this holiday with excitement because it brings a feeling of freshness and a new start.

When I was a child, the days before Nowruz felt like magic. Our home was full of movement, my mother cleaning the windows, my father fixing small things around the house, and me running around pretending to"help." The smell of fresh soap and the sound of laughter made the house feel alive.
