Projects that my are presented with in art are very PBL in that students are given a goal but yet there are many ways to accomplish the goal. What I am inspired to do in my art classes...after watching the assignments, is to design more collaborative team-based assignments which involve more communication, problem solving situations, and reflections among their peers.

Since I went through the training with Buck institute, I was reminded of the real-world importance of Project based learning. Life is not a multiple choice test so students need the skills of critical thinking, collaboration, problem solving, etc. to be successful in life

I think the biggest take away from this for me was the "public presentation" piece of the project. This is also the hardest thing to get students proficient at because they are not used to giving well-developed presentations in class.

I am realizing the importance reflection plays in helping students internalize what project/presentation skills actually mean. Reflection also encourages students to evaluate their own skill development over the course of a project and set their own goals for future growth.

I think that I realized that the importance of PBL is student engagement and buy-in. A PBL project engages students to solve a problem - specifically one that they are interested in or concerned with solving. That take s the learning experience to another level because of the engagement that they have to the content.

PBL is a great way to motivate kids that are otherwise not engaged. With the freedom that PBL gives students can explore more of their interests and go in new directions you may not be able to go in using a tradition assignment or project.
