The weather affects the mood in this chapter because it is raining and dark and gloomy which accompanies the mood of this chapter. This is because Sundara talks about how Chamroeun's died and how all of the things that have happened in her life have just been unfair. If the wether was nice and sunny, it would make the mood of the chapter different because what Jonathan and Sundara talked about was pretty sad, and if the weather was nice, it wouldn't go along with the chapter. It would be like saying something very sad in a joyful tone.

2. Life is like a road/life is like a river is personification because it is giving human qualities to a river and a road but it can also be a simile because it uses the words like or as. They both mean that life doesn't always go your way but you have to keep going. They are different because on a road you can stop in anyplace you want to at anytime, where as if you are on a river you can't stop because the water will keep flowing and pushing you along.
