Slave Uprisings

Put yourself in the shoes of a slave in the 1700's. Using your Chromebook, research, formulate and analyze the reasons why you believe slave uprisings were not more common place when at often times slaves outnumbered the slave owner 10 to 1. Was it out of fear of punishment? Or did they not know any different lifestyle? Looking through their eyes might develop a different perspective on human sociology and allow for you to formulate new ideas. Be prepared to compare and contrast ideas with peers on a shared Google Doc and dont forget to cite your sources!

Pass a Bill

For todays activity we are going to break the room into 2 sides, one side is against a bill, the other side if for the bill being passed. In your groups, create a Google Doc and share it with all members of the group. Then, analyze and compare all aspects of your bill in order to create something you believe is the best option. Teamwork is essential to this activity just like Congress is in real life. So do not forget to look at all aspects of your bill and evaluate them fairly while being able to defend them. Adapt, and revise your Google Doc as you come up with new ideas and do not be afraid to make changes. Lastly, share your Google Doc with me and Identify 3 people in each group to debate your groups final bill against 3 members of the other teams proposed bill.

On today's virtual field trip to the site of the Battle of Gettysburg, have fun exploring and taking in all the site has to offer. While exploring the site, recall what we have gone over in class on how the terrain affected the battle and apply it to what you see. Interpret the land to imagine how the battle played out and formulate an idea on how important the different areas of Gettysburg were. Compare and contrast what you believe what you believe the generals did right and wrong now that you have seen the battlefield for yourself. We will go over all answers at the end. Here is the link http://virtual-tour.battlefields.org/?s=pano69

Today, we will use the SmartBoard and a blank map of the United States to virtually map the states that were in the Union and Confederacy. I will call one student at a time up to use the interactive SmartPen to circle a site of a major battle in the Civil War. Then another student will draw a line to represent the path the Armies took to march between states. This will display and measure how long it took for them to march from one place to another. Next, another student will come up and write down how many days it took for that Army to march the displayed path. A class discussion will follow afterwards.

A Moment in History-Construct a model

For the final project of this class, groups of 5 will each be assigned a battle of the Civil War to design, create, and display a moment of their assigned battle. A video component must also be completed, this can be a reenactment of the moment you have chosen using your model, or a live action recreation using props and your acting! Use your imagination and ask if you have questions on it! The model must be at least 1 sq. foot by 1 sq. foot. Any materials may be used to create the moment you choose. This moment could be the Army marching into battle, or maybe the climax of the battle. Your group will present your model to the class and teach everyone what is happening and why you choose that moment in history to recreate alone with showing your video component. I will assign presentation days later on in the course. Don't forget to summarize your battle and examine the small details. Good luck!
