Write a brief response to your video addressing the following questions:

How did the video you watched define reflection? Do you agree or disagree with this definition? Why?
Mention one (1) life situation in which you used reflection and how it helped or influenced that situation and whether and why the outcome could have been different if you had thought about the reflection in the way it is presented in your video.

This video defined reflection as a practice consisting of three steps: doing, thinking, and acting. I definitely agree with this definition, especially since it emphasizes action. Reflection can help us make sense of almost any situation and lead to profound observations and resolutions, but where are we if we don’t bring our observations and resolutions back with us into the real world?

For example, I used to start my day with reflective journaling, sorting out the hectic aspects of my life and setting resolutions for the day. It was very easy to be idealistic and set high standards for myself during the morning when I was feeling unpressured and peaceful, but by midday, I’d usually broken every one of my resolutions. I might have met with more success had I focused on the action component of reflection stressed in this video and tried harder to carry out my ideas, even if it meant setting less ambitious goals for myself.

The video that I watched was called The Art of Reflection. In this, reflection was defined as looking at actions and seriously considering these actions and their effects on future outcomes. I agree with this definition as it can be applied to many aspects of life. Reflection allows us to look back and see which actions were favorable and which were not. This can help in other situations we come across where we are faced with similar decisions.

I have used reflection all throughout my life, especially during my job as an intern in artificial intelligence and data science in drug discovery. When I had to create presentations, I would reflect on what I had done throughout the internship and how I could have avoided steps that wasted a lot of time and resources and worked towards my goal more efficiently. After learning this definition provided by the video, I could have divided my reflection into more in depth steps in order to correctly evaluate what is was I needed to present.

I think that this definition is pretty spot on.
A year ago, I was pretty fickle minded, until I read something that completely contrasted my view point. I actually don't quite remember what I read (it might have been something about rockets), but since then, I feel like I am less opinionated.

Spencer M.

This video defined reflection as analyzing past events to improve future outcomes. I agree with this definition because it puts emphasis on growth. Reflection allows us to take a step back and find a clear solution.
During our film session for my high school soccer team, we collectively pointed out errors during matches, but never came up with a fitting correction. If I was aware of the definition from the video, the session could've been a more positive one, as it would've enabled a growth mindset that provided a clear solution.

The video I watched, Introduction to Reflective Practice, discusses that an effective way of assessing our decisions made in the past is to analyze what we did and what could have gone better. Put simply, Do, Think, Act: What can be done better or differently, what was the response, and what skills need to be learned in order to improve. I agree with the points this video brings up because it often shows that when we analyze aspects of why we acted the way we did, we'll change our decisions based on how we want to improve the outcome of our choices.
Using reflection has helped in many situations, such as a time I was shooting trap with my scout troop and kept missing almost every clay I aimed for. I couldn't understand why. Later on, I thought about how I was shooting and if my sight picture was where I needed to be in order to line up the shot. I think that if I had thought about what I wanted to change I would've tallied more birds. After learning about the information given by the video, it has made me aware of how reflecting will aide better informed decisions.

Metacognition or "reflection" is giving yourself the best opportunity to learn what you are trying to learn. This video describes using decisions that help the learning outcomes to help students meet their goals, thinking not just about the WHAT of learning but about the HOW. I agree with this definition because I am more of a think before you do type of person. I know that I have difficultly learning so I try to figure out how to take what I am given and individually process it in my brain.

When I played Basketball in high school, the coaches pushed us through rigorous training exercises and plays every day. After the season was over, I used the rest of the year to reflect on who I was during the time and could have avoided lots of hard times and mistakes had I taken the time to think about why we trained and pushed ourselves that much. I might have taken that experience as a good learning lesson instead of a failure if I had been thinking more about the process rather than the outcome.

The Art of Reflection

The video described reflection as the way we see in the mirror while it also gave a more formal definition saying it is a process of serious thought or consideration. I agree with this definition as it basically states to focus on the flaws as well as the good qualities, but while looking at the failures have a self awareness and find out where did I go wrong? and why did I fail?

The video describes a simple reflection cycle of how we can be self aware of the mistakes made. I was attending the Geography lecture , while the ma’am had finished with the lesson and was asking questions. I was confident enough while raising my hand to answer, but then I fumbled looking at my peers and I gave the wrong answer. Though I was prepared and knew what to say the next time I will focus on practicing how to frame and present answers in the front of class and also always revise the taught concepts before coming to the class. The video describing the reflection cycle connected the most on how we can always find a space for improvement.
