Hi Stephanie,
I was able to hear your presentation just fine by clicking "Slideshow" and then, "From beginning". I thought the graphics you included throughout the presentation reinforced your content well, especially the "SES indicators" and the "30 million word gap" graph. I also really liked how you explicitly described the effects and impact of not solving your problem. At times, I had a hard time following when there were large blocks of text, an image and your voiceover competing for my attention. I think if you used bulleted phrases for some of those large blocks of text, as you did on other slides, that problem would be solved. Congrats!
-Ashley Naranjo

Interesting numbers on the long-term financial effects of high school dropouts. Great pacing of narration. It would have been helpful to the reviewer to present the number of children living in the U.S. earlier to underscore the severity of the problem. Great job!
-Ben

Stephanie, our problem of practices are the same! I enjoyed viewing your presentation, which included many of the same research I explored in the process of creating mine. Your tone and the corresponding images you selected conveys the importance of the language deprivation gap. Your final slide succinctly summarizes the importance of solving this. To enhance your data points, consider including the statistics succinctly on the screen (e.g. 1.2 million dropouts). Well done!
--Melissa

You did a great job Stephanie. You gave us great information about a real problem and you showed the disparity between children from impoverished backgrounds and those from more affluent homes. The slides you used were interesting and your voice tone and speed was perfect! The only thing I would add is a clearer explanation of what SES is for us novices. Dave Davis

Stephanie, clear, concise, good explication.

Crisp pace, not rushed. One criticism: Hold the microphone away from your mouth as you speak, this avoids the puffing sounds.

As I wrote to Melissa:
Your project's importance of the problem statements dovetail to my bloated presentation.
Your figure of $204,000 in lifetime societal expenditures per capita makes a very large number, looking only at the number of dropouts 16-24 years old: $240,000 x 38,404,000 = $7,834,416,000,000.00 is the lifetime cost of a fraction of the universe of dropouts.

SES is important. But there are always temptations to reify something that can be remedied though home and school intervention.
Patrick Irish

I did view your presentation and enjoyed learning about the language gap. The message was well presented. The importance of language was proven through your facts and graphic representations. One or two slides had a lot of information. All in all, your slides were great!
Regards, Cecilia Almaaz
