The word encourage means to give someone support of some sort or hope and even confidence. the prompt states are we encouraged to float or does society try to weigh us down and force us into hiding? In the film, society determined the child's fate that because he was different from their kids that he should be treated differently which is my answer and an example of society weighing him down. His father was even embarrassed that his son was irregular because society treated him that way and treated him like an abomination so his father felt as if he was. If the script was flipped and they all loved the baby because it flew his father would be proud because society welcomed him and praised him or even wanted to be him but because society exempt him forcing him to a life of exiled him his father felt embarrassed. In modern day society, virtually if you don't have the latest fashion or even because you come from a poor family your scorned upon and judged. In addition thinking about the lesson, like the boy black people are looked on because of the color of their skin people are judgy and only accept their kind and cannot handle something different and they don't see the issue when they were the issue all along. Which is why people are never able to fully embrace themselves for who they are due to the fact that there's people out there who normalize their imperfections to be hilarious and humiliate those with them. In the aspect of the public eye these jokes and sayings are NORMALIZED and lead to further damage to communities like BIPOC, LGBTQ, and people with disabilities. I once experienced racism and those around the scene did nothing because its NORMALIZED to be a bystander to others in danger/ threatened.
