         <title>Constitutional Convention</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Yesterday's class showed why having a weak federal government made it difficult to hold 13 different states together as a nation. Trade was difficult because there were 13 different currencies, different trade&nbsp; and tax codes, and no one to settle disputes that arose between states. This video says the who, what, when, and why the Constitutional Convention was held. Students practiced note-taking strategies to record the important information.<br>Strategies include:<br>-Think about what we are studying and how new information will fit in with topics we have already learned.<br>-What is the time the events are taking place?<br>-Who are the important players?<br>-Cause and Effect - what happened that caused something else to happen?<br><br>We also filled in the gaps. The video only told part of the story, and we looked up additional information to see how what happened at the Con-Con looks in today's world. While the House of Representatives allows people to be proportionally represented, the Senate gives each state equal votes. Today, how does this give small states disproportionate power and what does that look like for today's politics?</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>We read about, then watching a film about the problems with trade in the new United States in the 1780s, but what was that really like? To get a deeper understanding, we conducted a role play. Each student portrayed a person in one of the original 13 states and was given a task to complete. They had to then navigate trade deals with representatives from other states. The board pictures illustrate the problems that they encountered.&nbsp;</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Please note that we have only just introduced the concept of the US Constitution and the Constitutional Convention. We have mentioned that the group of people who wrote the document were white men working in secret. We have not gone into detail about some of the compromises that went into the process, including that slavery was not outlawed. We have told students that we will be delving deeper into not only the product (what the Constitution says) but also the way in which many voices were purposefully left out and the effect this has on our country then and now.</div>]]></description>
