We have developed our filming skills throughout the production of our preliminary task and our final music video. We have definitely developed our camera skills from the skills we gained during AS filming our thriller. Comparing our final music video to our thriller we created in AS we have developed, during AS we had basic filming and editing skills however during the production of our music video we have developed this as we have used different, better editing software as well as a better camera. The camera that we filmed on was the DLSR, we used this camera because it would give us high quality footage and it would mean that we wouldn't get any shots that were blurry. However to ensure that this would not happen we needed to make sure that we used auto focus as this would give us a good result of our footage. We also used my iPhone to film the selfie shot as this was an easier option then using the camera as it was not as bulky or heavy for this shot we did not use a tripod. We also used a tripod to ensure stability of camera shots whereas in my thriller we didnt use a tripod as we filmed on an iPhone.

I havealso learnt different editing techniques and how to use different editing
software. To edit our music video we used Premiere Elements instead of iMovie
this was because we wanted the quality of our promo to be high. We also used
this because it would allow us to use different effects such as the spilt
screen and freeze frames which you can’t do on iMovie. We needed to learn the
basics on how to actually edit on it. Although it did take a little while to
learn how to use it, the quality and the amount of new features you could do
compared to that of IMovie was well worth it. Creating the digipak and magazine
poster on Photoshop was easy however as the last time I used this software was
doing GCSE media I had to get used to using this software again. Therefore I
had to re-learn how to use the software which helped me to develop my skills.

The problems that occurred

The only problem that we came across whilst filming was the bad weather. On both days of filming it was very foggy and there was light rain. However this didn’t really affect us or our footage. Another problem we ran into with the camera is that at times we forgot to turn the manual focus off and onto auto focus so this landed us with good quality looking footage on the camera screen but not very good looking footage when we imported them onto the mac. Therefore we needed to re-film parts of our production again to ensure that it looked professional and good quality. When we re-filmed we made sure that we turned on auto focus to ensure quality of the footage. When it came to actually editing our production there were also a few obstacles: Firstly the first obstacle we had to overcome was getting used to actually using the editing software, as it was the first time ever using it. the second problem that we also came across was the problem with the software as even though we had saved our work during the process of editing sometimes it didn’t actually save and therefore we had to edit these parts again which took more time.

I have learnt so many new skills filming our music video compared to filming my thriller. I have learnt that you need to use auto focus rather than manual focus this is because it makes the footage better quality. The first time we filmed some of our shots were out of focus and blurry this was because we had the camera on manual focus. Therefore when we re-filmed we made sure that we put the camera on auto focus to give us better quality footage which it did. As I used a different camera compared to the camera I used to film my thriller I feel that I have developed as a film maker as I have learnt how to use the new camera before filming our music video. As a group we have learnt/developed creating graphic matches to be used as a transition from one location to another and getting the right camera shots to make the whole section look correct and edit them together so they flow and make the promo look interesting as opposed to just using normal straight cuts between shots. When creating our music video we used a tripod, therefore we needed to make sure that we used this correctly to make sure that our promo looked professional. This shows that I have developed my filming skills as in AS filming my thriller we didn’t use a tripod as we filmed on an iPhone. We also had to know how to use the camera when filming and taking pictures as well as using the studio when actually taking pictures. We learnt how to use the studio ensuring the correct background was used and the lights were lighting the background instead of the person in the shot, this allowed the photos to look more professional.
