New York was first settled by the Dutch in 1613 which they built trading posts along the Hudson River. New York's geography was mainly made up of hills and flat lands. They had good soils which were good for farming and growing crops. The climate was relatively hot and sunny which meant that they had a longer growing season. The climate contributed to the colony by making it grow in profit since the growing season was longer. Some natural resources were iron ore and rich soil.
