Ed camp is a fundamental movement that allows educators to take professional development into their own hands. The amount of knowledge learned in these summits can make a tremendous impact on the lives of our students. The absence of state regulated mandates allows teachers to learn freely.

I always enjoy article from Edutopia. The simplicity of the content and the straight forward approach always makes me want to discover more. I enjoyed the 5 Tips to Help Teachers Who Struggle with Technology article. The skills shed insight on how to overcome learning technologies and the steps toward implementation. The “build a tech team” concept is phenomenal. Often times teachers need support, especially from ones who may have gone through the approach before. Mentoring and coaching less experienced teachers will create camaraderie and accountability.

The tech team approach will work in the classroom as well. Placing students in groups based on challenged area will ignite confidence with both parties. Students who lack particular skills are able to learn from those who are more advanced. Peer learning has always been helpful and impactful.

Steps used to motivate learners.

The need to know concept will be the most exciting to tackle, getting to the root of the topic always excite me. I will leave out the ambiguity most educators lead with to challenge critical thinking skills. The learners self-concept, I will make it known that the idea of leaning technology takes shared responsibility. I will also interject, just as we expect our students to learn the concepts we introduce, the same requirements goes for professional development. Therefore, as with our students, I will present areas of opportunity for teachers to demonstrate their learning. The learners experience will be tied with feedback. There will be opportunities for teachers to provide their feedback with concepts they don’t understand. Readiness to Learn will be straight forward. In order for our students to advance beyond average these concepts must be implemented. As with readiness to learn, the Orientation to Learning concept goes hand-to-hand with students’ improvement and engagement. If we want to produce global competitors, we must be global teachers. Motivation will be hard, in the beginning, but with the right approach teachers will begin to see the significance of their learning. I will explore the team building aspect in conjunction with this concept to hopefully provide a community of support. Often times, I’m motivated by seeing others trying to accomplish the same goal as I am.

The idea of an EdCamp or Unconferences is new too me. I could see why they are popular. MostTeachers do not have a lot of time during the school day to share ideas or try out a new technology tool. I think Edcamps and Unconferences are a good opportunities for teachers to learn, share and collaborate. After searching for Edcamps in the DMV area, I found one that is close by. It will be at the Lowell School on October 21, 2017. I could see my self hosting a Edcamp one day. I would especially like to host an event where teachers could come out and learn new educational apps and how to integrate them into their curriculum.
