"'Aren't there any grownups at all?'" Piggy asks Ralph, who eventually becomes the leader of the ragtag band of boys on the island. Piggy suddenly becomes the outsider, and the lyric that fits him best is, "What the heck is wrong with me? Don't fit in with anybody." After he asked him not to, "'He's not Fatty,' cried Ralph, 'his real name's Piggy!'"  the boys made fun of him and "A storm of laughter arose and even the tiniest child joined in. Ralph tells everyone, "'We must make a fire.'" The boys agree and start carrying firewood up to the mountain. Jack was trying to figure out how to make a fire and then he said, "'His specs--- use them as burning glasses!'" They used them and then there was  "Fire! fire on the mountain!" like the song by The Grateful Dead. The fire ended up burning part of the forest. "The flame from your stage has now spread to the floor/ You gave all you had. why you want to give more?" One of the boys went missing, "'That little 'un... him with the mark on his face, I don't see him. Where is he now?'" Jack is becoming more obsessed with the idea of killing a pig. The lyric "You learn to live like an animal in the jungle where we play" relates very closely to Jack, because he would have never acted like he did in the beginning of chapter 3. "Jack was bent double. He was down like a sprinter, his nose only a few inches from the humid earth." He adapted to his environment and was starting to lose what made him civilized. He let the fire go out, and Ralph was very upset while Jack seemed like he didn't care at all. Ralph yelled at him, saying, "'I was talking about smoke! Don't you want to be rescued? All you can talk about is pig, pig, pig!'" Jack can only think about killing now. He doesn't notice that the littluns are starting to get more and more scared. Axl Rose sings "Welcome to the jungle, it gets worse here every day" and the littluns are becoming more afraid. Ralph tells Jack "'They talk and scream. Gerard Way sings "On and on, we carry through the fears." The younger boys were scared but  "They cried for their mothers much less often than might have been expected." They grew used to their fears and kept living, like the song says. While the littluns play, Jack and the hunters have been working on a way to kill a pig. They decide to paint their faces, and when Jack saw his face, "He began to dance and his laughter became a bloodthirsty snarling." They finally killed their pig, and "The boys chattered and danced." A rift was slowly dividing the boys, and it was becoming more apparent after they lost their chance to be rescued because the hunters were more focused on the pig. Sleeping With Siren's main singer, Kellin Quinn asks "Who is this man that I've become?" This lyric greatly describes Jack, who has changed greatly from the beginning of the book. Piggy asks the assembly, "'What are we? Humans? Or animals? Or savages...'" Jack then spoke out, and he says, "'Bollocks to the rules...'" In the song, the chorus mainly consists of the words: "Even if there's nowhere left to go/ I'll take you there" Jack is like that with the assembly. The song Animal I Have Become and the lyric "So what if you can see the darkest side of me?/ No one would ever change this animal I have become/ And help me believe it's not the real me" portrays that theme very well. "However Simon thought of the beast, there rose before his inward sight the picture of a human at once heroic and sick." (103) That quote resonates with the aforementioned song lyric because Simon imagined the beast as a human, and the song is about a person becoming an animal. "Sometimes a littlun cried out from the other shelters and once a bigun spoke in the dark. Then they too fell asleep." The little kids were scared, and they were having night terrors, like the lyric, "Somebody help me through this nightmare/ I can't control myself." Then Samneric saw the dead parachutist and ran to tell Ralph about it, "'We've seen the beast with our own eyes. "They were dirty.." (110) the book says of all of the boys. The boys didn't look the part of civilization, like when the song lyrics say "Do you feel in me/ Anything redeeming/ Any worthwhile feeling?" While Ralph was alone, he thought that "He would like to have a pair of scissors and cut this hair... He would like to have a bath, a proper wallow with soap." (109) This quote shows that though Ralph looks the part of a savage, he still holds onto the ideals of his old civilized ways. Jack then tore through, chasing a boar. There was a great commotion, but it got away. They then started circling Robert and chanted, while hitting him with the butts of their spears. "All at once, Robert was screaming and struggling with the strength of frenzy. Jack had him by the hair and was brandishing a knife." "Simon had passed through the area of fruit trees but today the littluns had been too busy with the fire on the beach and they had not pursued him there." Simon was alone, so "He went on among the creepers until he reached the great mat that was woven by the open space and crawled inside." Green Day deals heavily with loneliness and feeling left out as demonstrated when they sing, "I walk a lonely road/ The only one that I have ever known./ Don't know where it goes/ But its only me and I walk alone."  Later, Simon speaks with the Lord of the Flies and it tells him, "'There isn't anyone to help you.'" Simon is very different from everybody else, and nobody really understands him. Gaston uses his status as a successful hunter and revered war hero to convince townspeople to kill a beast. Jack uses meat and a party to convince people to join his tribe. Gaston sings, "We're not safe until he's dead/ He'll come stalking us at night." Gaston is using fear to control the townsfolk but Jack used bribery and coercion. "'I gave you food,' said Jack, 'and my hunters will protect you from the beast. Who will join my tribe?'" The boys start chanting "Kill the beast! Cut his throat! Spill his blood!" Simon stumbles into their dance and starts getting attacked, while he's trying to tell them that the beast isn't real, like when LeFou sings "There's a beast running wild, there's no question/ But I fear the wrong monster's released." The boys continue their dance and end up killing Simon and "... "'It was an accident,'" (157) the boys say of Simon's death, but when Samneric run into Ralph and Piggy, "The air was heavy with unspoken knowledge." They all knew they had a part in Simon's untimely demise, yet they feigned innocence that they could never get back. "But never forgets what I lost" that lyric refers to innocence, but more so, "'That was Simon.' … 'That was murder.'" The boys lost two things they could never get back, innocence and a dear friend. Ralph called an assembly, and they decided "'I'm going to that Jack Merridew an' tell him, I am.'" (171) Piggy was determined to get his glasses back but, as the song says, "I see trouble on the way." That lyric is foreshadowing the terrible things that will happen on Castle Rock, but nonetheless, "They set off along the beach in formation." (173) When they got there, they had an altercation. The lyric "Don't go 'round tonight/ It's bound to take your life" really resonates with this chapter because "The rock struck Piggy a glancing blow from chin to knee..." "He even had a glimpse of one of them, striped brown, black, and red, and had judged that it was Bill. But really, thought Ralph, this was not Bill. This was a savage whose image refused to blend with that ancient picture of a boy in shorts and shirt." (183) This quote directly relates to the lyric, "They're savages! Savages! Barely even human." Jack's tribe has lost whatever civility they had left. "They were savages it was true; but they were human..." They might have been savages, but they weren't capable of hurting Ralph, right? "We must sound the drums of war" Jack and his gang started hunting Ralph down. "It was an ululation over by the seashore-- and now the next savage answered and the next."
