The 19th Amendment gave everyone over the age of 21 or older the right to vote. This amendment allowed all genders the age of 21 or over the right to vote. This expended our popular sovereignty because it allowed women of all races to be included in presidential elections, overall giving more people the right to rule our government for our sake.

There was a break in at the Democratic National Committee building, and President Richard Nixon tried to cover up the break ins.

The 15th Amendment allowed all men of any race over the age of 21 the right to vote. This law was a Federal law put out after slavery was made illegal. Even though all men could vote, this rule didn’t mean anything within certain states. The states put up any restrictions that they could because they had the right to due to federalism. They put out literacy tests to stop African Americans from voting. This changed the idea of federalism because the states and the central governments should both work together and have a say but, in this situation what the Federal government said didn’t matter to the states.

The 13th Amendment made slavery illegal. This amendment was supposed to change the popular sovereignty of this country at the time but, it didn’t really change anything. Because of discrimination towards African Americans even after slavery, they didn’t get much or any of say in the government and how it ran. Overall, not changing popular sovereignty until the 1970’s.

The Marbury v. Madison case was between James Madison William Marbury. Marbury’s job was in jeopardy because Madison forgot his slips for Marbury to keep his job. This case went on because Madison used the Constitution to back him up but, Marbury used a Writ of Mandamus. The judge voted in favor of Madison because a Writ of Mandamus can only be used in certain cases, stated by the Constitution. And because this case the judical branch received more power because they now had the power to judicial review (interpreting the laws). The power given to the judicial branch changes how much those within that branch can do overall, giving them more power and affecting limited government at this time.

The 22nd Amendment only allowed President’s two terms in office. This idea was to keep the limited government stable in the sense that it doesn’t give Presidents too much power by becoming a dictator. We will still feel the President’s effect but, not so much that our government wouldn’t be a little stable.

The 23rd Amendment gives D.C. 3 Electoral votes but, no representatives. This law was set in place to keep those living in D.C. happy. The visual of this amendment was not not keep the citizens happy but, to also make sure that with the addition of D.C. the different branches would remain as stable as they were previous to this law. And by letting them partake in presidential elections but, not have an impact of the government officials and their branches is the government’s way of keeping the separation of powers stable, or in this case the same.

The Marijuana Waiver System is the idea of having a waiver to allow you to possess a certain amount of marijuana in certain states. This idea is supposed to keep the states and Federal Government out of one another's hair on this topic. By having a happy middle a somewhat balance is created between both rulings. Overall, keeping the idea of the states and the Federal Government having a say and compromising is an example of Federalism at a stable stance.

The Obergefell v. Hodges case changed our government completely. This case is about the legalization of same sex marriages in the whole country. While it was legal in some states, others it wasn’t. So, on June 26, 2015 same sex marriage was legalized in all states by the Federal Government. This law changed not only the law, but also changed many views and opinions on this topic as a whole country. It was a time where many came together and our right to popular sovereignty shined. The people requested and the Government gave.

The Brown v. Board of Education case was an attempt to change our government for the better of a singled out minority but, unfortunately failed until many years later. This case is about segregated schools back in the 50’s. The problem wasn’t the segregation itself but, more of the inequality in the education granted in black and white schools. It wasn’t understood why children couldn’t go to a certain school that may be closer to where they live because of something that can’t be changed. This case was an attempt to end segregated schools and as a bigger picture segregation as a whole. While many schools did start to integrate, this didn’t end until 10 years after this case. This case again has to do with the popular sovereignty within people and the youth of that time. Overall, this case didn’t change anything during it’s life. It did though start a change a decade or so later.
