Reading a multicultural book aloud to students in an early childhood classroom and talking about the characters' experiences and the story's message during ELA will help students learn about other cultures and identify with the characters' experiences.

Example: Read aloud "Milo Imagines the World" by Matt de la Pena and use an anchor chart afterwards to write down the things the students remember from the book, the characters, and how Milo sees the world.

Having an inclusive environment allows students learn in alternate ways who do not learn effectively in the traditional classroom environment (Lage et al., 2000). There are many ways a teacher can create an inclusive environment. When the teacher is designing their classroom, they can add artwork or graphics from different cultures to honor their students' culture, say names correctly with correct pronunciation, and offer different methods to students to show their understanding of the material, such as drawing what happened in the story instead of telling.
