The Japanese civil war in the 16th century was also called the Sengoku period. This was started by the Onin war, where people were against samurai rule in Japan. A group named the Ikko-ikki were standing up against samurai rule, along with other Japanese citizens. Even after the war, in 1477 CE, came to an end, Japan remained militarily divided. The following century, as clans fought the other, no one ever gained any sort of authority. Many communities operated independently of the central government in the lack of any authority. Seeing this, former leaders decided on establishing an authorization of five daimyos. The conquest of Odawara by Toyotomi Hideyoshi's army in 1590 marked the end of the Sengoku era.

Japan invaded by Mongols

In 1274 and 1281, Kublai Khan of the Yuan dynasty launched significant military campaigns to subjugate the Japanese. A hurricane miraculously spared the last grip of the samurai before the Mongol invasions of Japan in 1274 and 1281, Thats where they decimated the country's resources and authority in the area and all but destroyed the samurai culture and Empire of Japan. A force of between 16,600 and 40,000 troops, made up of forced Chinese and Koreans as well as Mongols, was transported by the ships. Tsushima and the Iki Islands were the first areas of Japanese territory to be seized by these invaders. The Khan might have desired to affirm his Mongol ancestry. He might have tried to reopen trade channels between the two countries. The Mongol army on its way to Japan was annihilated in 1274 and 1281 by a series of two powerful typhoons known as the "Kamikaze" due to their extraordinary ferocity and allegedly heavenly origins.
