“Don't you know I'm still standing better than I ever did

Looking like a true survivor, feeling like a little kid

I'm still standing after all this time

Picking up the pieces of my life without you on my mind”

The Haitian Revolution due to conflicts between 1791 and 1804, was the overthrow of the French regime in Haiti by the Africans and their descendants who had been enslaved by the French and the establishment of an independent country founded and governed by former slaves.
I chose the song I’m Still Standing because they’ve had a long conflict, it was 13 years. Also, they’ve been through a lot because their descendants were enslaved by the French and they wanted to have an independent country and now it’s its own country.

Father Miguel Hidalgo

Father Hidalgo was a Creole priest who was tired of the Peninsulares' rule. He led many people to fight the Spaniards in Mexico, which used to be called New Spain.Father Hidalgo reminds me of the song “ Traitor” by Olivia Rodrigo because he was a Creole and he started a revolution because he was tired of the Spaniards colonizing modern-day Mexico. He was found guilty of treason which is the betrayal of one’s country and he wasn’t sorry so he was sentenced to death. So the lyrics “You betrayed me. And I know that you'll never feel sorry” because he died doing something he was passionate about and did help Modern-day Mexico.

The Monroe Doctrine was to prevent further British rule in North and South America. It was established by James Monroe in 1823 in his speech to Congress. It also said “Any attempt by a European power to oppress or control any nation in the Western Hemisphere would be viewed as a hostile act against the United States. I chose this song because, after the colonization of America, they didn’t trust anyone because they’ve been through so much due to King George III. They’re also relearning how to trust people and if they did try to control The USA or any country near it would be like an act of violence so they can’t be caught “slipping”.

"But you're the only one cause I don't trust these b******

I don't, I don't trust these b*****

They might catch me slipping

So, you're the only one cause I don't trust these b******

They might, they might catch me slipping"

Simon Bolivar was a Venezuelan soldier. He led Venezuela, Colombia, Panama, Ecuador, and Peru to their independence. He tried to make it into one big country but it didn’t work out.

The Pokemon theme song represents Bolivar because he was able to get countries back from Spanish rule. After all, he was a good leader. The "Gotta catch 'em all!" relates to him because he “caught” the countries and saved them from cruel rulers.

The Invasion of Mexico resulted from a territorial dispute between the United States and Mexico. It lasted two years from 1846 until 1848, after both parties agreed to the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo. As a result of the war, the United States took over the land that later became New Mexico, Utah, Nevada, Arizona, California, Texas, and western Colorado.I chose this song because Mexico and America are fighting over Texas and this song is fighting over a boy so it is kind of related. Also, they did take it over and now the United States has Texas as a state.

"She, she ain't real

She ain't gon' be able to love you like I will

She is a stranger

You and I have history

Or don't you remember

Sure, she's got it all"
