Ratliff explains the concept of closeness as "two or more musicians, or musical elements, acting in the purest coordination" (pg 161). This lets the listener fully appreciate the music since multiple elements are working together to give the song a simplistic sound while the musicians are working complexly . In chapter 14 the concept of closeness is presented as giving "the listener a secure, jacketed feeling." (pg. 161), this feeling allows the listener to connect to the music in an easier way due the ear pleasing sound.

""We translate sounds into visuals, and we apply our own rulers and meters."
- Ben Ratliff, page 161

Ratliff's explanation of closeness is the easiest to understand and apply to how we as listeners interpret music. This quote explains the concept of closeness and how as humans we are naturally inclined to visualize the things we hear, by doing this we are better able to grasp the meaning of music.

"Entertainment", in biomusicology, describes two oscillating bodies vibrating synchronously, creating resonance...but when two musicians of any kind are synchronizing on the surface levels and the deeper ones too, that's something else." (pg 162)
- Ben Ratliff

Ratliff describes the idea of closeness as an elements that gives off the quality of sounds as being deep or full. When musicians are able to pull of this concept of closeness it is viewed as an achievement due to the fact that staying on pitch is hard.

Throughout this song the two lead vocalists of this group alternate singing verses. Either Taylor Rice or Kelsey Ayer will singthe lead and the other will be heard in the bacground matching the same harmony but singing different lyrics.
"Looking at all the people
While they're looking at you
If only they were a mirror
and you could do what you want to

No one, no one, no one, no one
No one, no one, no one, no one
Has ever made me feel the way you do
Like you do, like you do, like you do

Oh, oh, oh, oh
All at once
Everything have become overflowing"
The different pitches of the two vocalists during these verses truly come together to create a masterpiece.

One of the most remarkable parts of this song is the harmony sung between John Lennon and Paul McCartney, from the first note until the last they manage to stay on pitch blending their voices together to create a beautiful song.

This picture of a snug fitting jacket depicts the concept of closeness perfectly. Ratliff even describes this concept as "a secure jacketed feeling" (pg 161) The idea that closeness is two or more elements as well as musicians coming together to create this perfect sounding harmony or pitch can be viewed as someone zipping up a jacket. By doing this they're bringing together two different sides in order to create a master piece.

While reading Chapter 14 and analyzing the concept of closeness I kept thinking about mandala's and how they relate to this idea. Just like the concept of closeness a mandala uses more than one element in order to create a visual that is pleasing to the eye and the final product.
