The inhuman treatment of disabled people, behind closed doors, was never to occur again. The rights to equal care and rights for disabled people are upheld today, with educational sections in school specifically designated to handle the needs of disabled students. Institutions today are carefully supervised, as opposed to Willowbrook, where the parents were unaware of what was occurring to their children after they dropped them off. The continuous vigilance of advocacy for disabled peoples rights, and equal care. The lingering trauma from what occurred at Willowbrook stands to set up a better future for disabled people, and make a better systemic standard in institutions.
