Teenage brains

What is going on in the teenage brain? One of the most profound change occurs at the onset of adolescence. A huge "pruning" of synapsis and then mylification (protecting) the remaining
synapsis takes work and can make teens seem lethargic. Also dopamine levels drop making the need for "new" and "risk" bigger. I'm wondering if the issue of procrastination is a "safe" way for teens to take risk (one of the things their brains crave). Lots to think about in terms of how this affects academics and project based learning.

Digital Natives??

Dr Boyd explores the idea of being a "digital native" and what that means socially for kids as well as what it means for (at least part) of their academic and social world. We often assume that because students are comfortable in a digital social scene, that they are also adept at navigating all things digital for academic purposes as well. This couldn't be farther from the truth. Also, if their networked social lives are as complex as they appear, then their social relationships (peer to peer) as well as student/teacher relationships, need to change as well.
